Re: Twitter problem with Cumulus v1.9.4 (1099)

I have a workaround for this problem that will help if you are using a Linux machine (eg Raspberry Pi) to run Cumulus MX. It involves using Cumulus to generate the text string to be tweeted, then using a separate simple (Python) program to tweet the text string when required (eg every hour). I've go...

Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

Thanks for finding an error in my instructions. The "For some reason" was that I had got a long hyphen (En-dash) instead of a short one in the code section saying sudo crontab -e Now fixed. Daily reboot is not particularly needed. It's just generally a good idea on any computer running any...

Re: Google map message on website

It's not working that well, Ray! Your site is showing whatever XXX Woking Road is closest to the viewer (Google knows everything ....)! You should be able to switch it to a postcode without ill effect (and also hiding the address at which we know there's a weather station in the garden ...). Try cha...

Re: Not Posting on Twitter

Yes, Steve, that was the problem.
I enabled autoupdate in Settings / Internet Settings / Web/FTP settings ,and am now happily tweeting both the weather text string and my webcam image at @LiesbergDorf

Re: Not Posting on Twitter

Simon, I'm obviously not being clear, or am thicker than I think! I've not done anything like this before and it's not obvious what to do. What do I need to do to tell Cumulus to 'process' my webtags twitter.txt file? I guess it means adding the file into Settings / Extra Files, but that doesn't see...

Re: USB stop responding

I don't have the same equipment, but here are some thoughts. Can you tell if either the Pi or Weather Station is 'crashing' & rebooting? or do both stay running with failed data collection? There are suggestions that adding USB hub helps some people. The hub should not do much except ensure that...

A pointer on how to do that would be useful. Once I have a text file, I will be able to tweet it, with a corresponding weathercam image (I use Twython).

Re: Not Posting on Twitter

Still trying to get a workaround for this.
Steve, is the text that CumulusMX would like to tweet (but fails because of the lack of auth keys) stored in a file somewhere? I am looking for but cannot find a copy of 'twitter.txt' that has been processed to contain the current data instead of the tags

I managed (eventually) to download a copy of mono v3.1 directly onto the Pi, rename it, then install it.

Glad it helped. I wasted ages ...!

Re: CumulusMX - RaspberyPi - Start|Stop|Restart Script V2.5.5.0

Not a full reply, but maybe some pointers? First, a Pi 3B+ is unnecessarily overpowered for running CumulusMX. It runs with plenty to spare on a Pi Zero W. Second, it's easy to start CumulusMX on reboot by adding an appropriate "@reboot ..." line into crontab. I've never needed to brave th...

Re: pre made raspberry pi - Cumulus mx img

Dazza kindly sent me a copy of his image, but I could not get it to work. He’s tried to add some helpful things, but means it ends up with a non-standard Raspberry Pi operating system which makes problems hard to work out.
I gave up on it.

Re: Cumulus Banner background

You’ll need to tell us which banner you are talking about. On the website linked from your signature, you just have the default Cumulus hillside and bird image. You can change that by just placing a different *.jpg in the directory.

Re: Aiuto configurazione CumulusMX e raspBerry Pi3

I'm not a great expert, but your system is reporting that you have installed Mono version 4.6.2. Recent versions of Mono do not work with USB Weather Stations - see other posts such as http://sandaysoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=13587&start=65#p130004 . So your Cumulus MX is simply not ...

Re: Later version of mono for Raspberry Pi 2

[quote=I orderted a RPi3 (perhaps my problems depents on my RPi1). Frank[/quote] Just to say that Cumulus MX will run perfectly on any version of Raspberry Pi. A Pi Zero W is perhaps the best choice because of small size, low power use and has all the connections you need (1x USB for the weather sta...
