@reboot works fine on every version of Raspbian that I have ever tried.
It certainly works on the current release, which is RASPBIAN STRETCH based on Debian Stretch.

sadly we are just losing Maplin here in UK. These look identical to the 'Maplin' Fine Offset station: https://www.amazon.co.uk/WIRELESS-WEATHER-FORECASTER-STATION-TOUCHSCREEN/dp/B005ERODQG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1526244235&sr=8-5&keywords=wh1080 or https://www.amazon.de/Forever-Speed-We...

Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

I've seen requests for a fully laid-out set of instructions for installing CumulusMX on a Raspberry Pi, so here goes. I haven't yet quadruple-checked all this, so please let me know if you find any errors. Buy equipment • Raspberry Pi Zero W o Using a faster Pi will speed the installation process, t...

It works fine for me. Suggest you check the file and directory names - some people call the directory 'Cumulus', others call it 'CumulusMX' and they obviously need to match what you called them on your system!

Re: Help to understand my Dad's system

I suspect he was using something like "screen" to launch Cumulus (like me!), this requires user interaction to restart Cumulus if the rPi is rebooted. I'm unsure why the 'screen' script method has become so popular. It's much easier to just use 'cron' and run Cumulus as a background task,...

Re: An error has occurred - please zip up the MXdiags folder and post it in the forum

There is a twitter apps page https://apps.twitter.com/ where you can register your own apps - is that of any use? I accidentally thought that too and made one. But no, that's not what's wanted. Cumulus needs to access the "Sandaysoft Cumulus" app not one I made myself. Tough luck :(. Nice...

Re: Problems starting at Windows startup

I'd guess that when running at boot, Cumulus is starting before the weather station boots up (if not running 24/7) or before the USB ports are running, or something like that. Have a look in the 'diags' file which should list what Cumulus is doing- I bet it's not finding the weather station. Can't y...

Re: cannot start CumulusMX

For a much easier method (no script, and will restart cumulus after any power outage ... it starts it on every reboot) see:

Re: CumulusMX - RaspberyPi - Start|Stop|Restart Script V2.5.5.0

Here is a much easier method .... This gives a totally headless Pi (Pi Zero W is best...), accessed only using SSH (PuTTY). If you need instructions how to set up an SD card so that a headless Pi connects to your WiFi, reply below and I'll add instructions. Use cron to start CumulusMX.exe as a backg...

Re: Small low powered PC

Just for the record - CumulusMX runs just fine on the lowest-powered Raspberry Pi you can get. Pi Zero W is the model of choice so that you can use the USB (OTG) port to connect the weather station and have wifi on board (PiZero without the W would need a USB hub and a WiFi dongle ... so is more exp...

Re: Which weather station to buy??

You say "My 4-year-old Maplin N96FY has started freezing". Well my old Maplin N96FY (a Fine Offset, rebranded), which Maplin were often selling half price (£50, $70) has been going strong for 8-9 years now. It's a long way from the base station, connection never fails and the batteries las...

Long shot here. You say "the cumulusmx.exe file vanished". I hope it's not as simple as needing the correct capitalisation - the filename needs to be CumulusMX.exe . It shouldn't delete the file though ...

Re: An error has occurred - please zip up the MXdiags folder and post it in the forum

Thanks for trying. The tokens - as I understand it - give your twitter app "Sandaysoft Cumulus" permission to access (ie write to) my twitter account, but without me telling you my username and password. I'm guessing that Cumulus uses the username and password when trying to get tokens (th...
