Re: Ordnance Survey Mapping & Cumulus

Re: permissions etc, you are of course quite right Kevin. There may well be other issues too, like for instance Steve might not wish to have the software associated with the project etc etc. I'm satisfied that it can be done in part at least. I may well be asking for a few volunteers in the near fu...

If we are looking for a number, are we maybe looking for a name that can be seen as a roman numeral, say maybe a Vi(vienne) => VI => 6?

Re: Rain gauge stopped working

The danger is that mounting the rain gauge ON the flat roof (with the existing cable) the parapet might protect the gauge if the wind is in the wrong direction. Depending on how far from the parapet you can get the gauge that might not be such a bad thing. Obviously you want to avoid an actual &quo...

Re: Interference on 433Mhz ?

I have an Oregon WMR928 with 3 extra sensors. I have WMR928 and 6[1] extra sensors and a WMR200, all operating on 433MHz. Anyone had any similar experience with non weather station equipment? I have a power monitor issued by our electricity supplier. It is a 433MHz device. I've never been able to g...

Re: Davis VP2 - add ons

Check my calculation You have the answer from Steve, but you might like to know that Google has a handy calculator for this sort of thing. If you type 53.456 cu in in l into a google search you'll get the answer 0.875986893 litres . It works for all sorts of units, with the general form <value> <un...

Re: wind speed correction

Ah, well, good question. I am told that the Met Office say that you should report your average wind speed using the height adjustment, but gusts should be reported as read. I can't actually find this in my Observer's Handbook. It is a very old copy, however. At this page I found " At stations ...

Re: Gale days settings ?

I can see why u get the very high winds. Most of the houses here have been around a long time and were built to withstand the weather. There's very little damage anywhere after a storm. I can attest to the sense behind the Scottish building regulations that require 'sarking' (a layer of boards that...

Re: details on converting the wind bearing

In addition to steve's code, Wikipedia's Boxing the compass page outlines an algorithm for converting degrees to a compass point. Actually, there's a bug in that algorithm. Try it for 359 degrees. I presume they just forgot to mention that because the whole thing "wraps around", 32 should...

Re: Sunshine Recorder

If you can work out a way to interface it to a PC, I'd certainly consider adding support for it to Cumulus. I'd also be tempted to build one myself - somewhat cheaper than the £250 for the Davis add-on for the VP2! I'd want a wireless connection, though ;) I've not tried it myself, but what some pe...

Re: Sunshine recorder

I don't know how you would get a sunshine recorder to work with Cumulus. 'Temp in a jar' (i.e. a temp sensor placed in a small glass jar in an open position) can be a quite effective solar tool, especially if it is just a matter of sunshine hours. The software would need to be able to calculate the...

Here's the topic I was thinking of.

Re: How accurate is the WH1081 anemometer?

It's only about 4 metres above ground level, but there are no obstructions. I live on a smallholding and it's situated above a hedge between two fields well away from the house. I use a WMR200, but with that, when I raised my anemometer from ~2.5m to ~5.5m I estimate that it increased gust measurem...

Re: How accurate is the WH1081 anemometer?

BTW, the pole it's mounted on is exactly vertical and the anemometer spins freely. How high? Any obstructions anywhere near? Official anemometers are usually mounted on 10m masts and well clear of any obstructions (and probably sample over a shorter period -I'm not sure what period the WH1081 uses?).
