Re: Radiation Shield accuracy
But knowing what is natural warming (a warm garden) and what is false warming (post generating heat up to the sensor) is difficult to determine. That is so true, and perhaps something you will never be completely sure about. Don't get me wrong, as I stated before I admire the persistence and drive ...

Re: Radiation Shield accuracy
Hi Ray and all, I also like the metal fence post idea, as a metal post will simply not "heat up" like a wooden post will. I considered the same for my station but ultimately liked the look of a wooden post better, and simply painted the post bright white. Interesting to note that the airpo...

Re: Wind data
Nevermind... I just read your announcement from this morning. I'll post those requests in the tracker. And actually the more I think about it Steve...given the extra work it sounds like you would need to do to extract the 2-minute wind data from the console...your current method for computing those ...

Re: Wind data
Slick...I did not see that. My apologies. Should I re-submit those ideas through the request tracker...or leave it as is at this point?Perhaps you could try out the new enhancement request tracker?
Thanks,

Re: Radiation Shield accuracy
Hi Ray and all, Been awhile...away doing other things...but thought I would check back to see how your ISS mounting/solar loading issue was coming along. I must say, I am quite impressed with the quest you and others have embarked to get as accurate temp data as possible. Impressive indeed. Another ...

Wind data
Hi Steve, Been awhile, I've been off doing other things. You may or may not be interested in this. Remember the configurable time for average wind speed funtionality you added to Cumulus (via the cumulus.ini file) so that a 2 minute speed could be reported? Well, it appears that the latest Vantage P...

Re: 2 questions
I could add that fairly easily. It seems a shame to reduce the VP2 "correct" value to the lowest common denominator, though. Well, I certainly cannot argue against that point. I got the idea after looking at the WU listing of nearby weather stations, and noting some fairly big differences...

2 questions
Hi Steve, One more suggestion, if you feel so compelled to implement it. Mostly for the Davis systems...the ability (toggle) to send altimeter setting to WU and PWS Weather. Sort of goes back to our discussion on altimeter setting versus sea level pressure. Since most non Davis stations simply repor...

Re: Radiation Shield accuracy
Did I promise that in this version of Cumulus? I think so, or at least we talked about the possibilities back when I sent the CWOP guide link. I think you said you were working on that option for CU2 and might also do it for Cu1. It wouldn't be hard to offer a 2-minute average speed instead of the ...

Re: Radiation Shield accuracy
Not a problem, good luck with that sensor. My garden is a meteorological nightmare! Oh to have something a bit bigger. I know what you mean. While I do not have the space issue for siting my temp/hum sensor, I am surrounded by 70+ foot maples. As such, getting a good siting for the rain gage was tri...

Re: Radiation Shield accuracy
Hi Ray, Boy, that is a tough call...and I tend to agree with you that it may not make a whole lot of difference no matter what. But given everything, I might seriously consider getting the ISS more into the center part of the yard. Will you get some "heating" from the house/walkway? Maybe,...

Re: Do you need the WeatherLink?
As someone else mentioned you will struggle to find any motherboards with serial ports these days so USB seems a perfectly safe way to go. It's time to stop bashing USB unless there is recent hard evidence to support it. Not USB bashing...as clearly USB is the default standard these days and many f...

Re: Radiation Shield accuracy
Hey Ray, Just took a look at the pictures of your temp/sensor placement. I guess I didn't realize just how close it is to that dark fencing. I would speculate that a day of good sunshine on that fence might just add a few degrees to your temps. If it were me, I would seriously consider getting your ...

Re: Radiation Shield accuracy
Hi Ray, The ideal goal is to mount a temp/humidity sensor in the open and well exposed, sensor shielded from direct sunshine, 2 to 3 meters above the ground, in a grassy area and far enough away from structures (buildings, pavement, etc) to be impacted by an artificial heat source. Now of course, th...
