Re: solar radiation sensor

Hi, You need to post a link to the "Pi solar sensor kit". I could only find some generic "sensors" kits (IMHO not much more than "toys") and a solar charging kit, neither of which are likely to be of much use for serious measurements. The Davis solar sensors cost hundre...

Re: solar radiation sensor

Hi, Not really an MX topic, but the Davis sensors are often considered as "reference" products which use specialised components such as a Teflon (PTFE) "Lens" in both, and a very expensive optical filter in the UVIndex sensor. Also, they are all individually calibrated, so not no...

Re: Watson W-8681-Solar

Hi, IIRC the FO Solar Pod has a ROM chip on the PCB which probably contains calibration data. So even if you could identify the "correct" sensor chips, would not necessarily guarantee "good" (accurate) results. I won't get onto my hobby horse again in detail here, but IMHO the FO...

Re: Weather Station Consoles to suit WH1081 Station

Hi Chris, Have you seen the "Insides of...1081" thread? I've often been tempted to remove the "Touchscreen" (and replace it with a push-button matrix) to improve the clarity of the display. But maybe just cleaning it will suit you? It's slightly "frightening" to remove ...

Re: Weather Station Consoles to suit WH1081 Station

Hi, Unfortunately, a "WH-1081 about 6 years old" could be any one of 6 versions, using one of three carrier frequencies (433, 868 or 915 MHz) and two wireless protocols (believed to be FSK and OOK). If it is electrically compatible with the "Maplin" stations then it will be 433 M...

Re: Which transmitter?

Hi, If the present transmitter was sold by Maplin in 2014 then it will use the "new" (OOK) Wireless Protocol (and 433MHz). Therefore it looks as if the Aercus replacement for the 2083 / 1093 should be suitable (but make sure you can return it if it isn't). These FO transmitters send separa...

Re: Fine Offset parts source?

Hi, Yes, I noticed that although a Chinese seller, the bearings were "UK stock", which usually doubles or triples the price. That Maplin could sell the anemometers for £2.49 suggests that they must cost (very) much less to manufacture in China. And I learned the hard way that also the reed...

Re: HP1000 / WH24 RF Protocol

Hi, Thanks for the update, I've certainly filed away the links for possible future use. For others, I note that your previous posts were on 6th August 2017 and with hindsight it appears that the photo shows an off-the-shelf receiver module , probably using the Si4432 transceiver chip. But of course ...

Re: Fine Offset parts source?

Hi, I normally just search ebay.co.uk, amazon or google but wasn't very successful this time. However "simply bearings" rang a bell, so try this . I've never used them but they seem to have free postage (but +VAT). Somebody did recently suggest that you should wash out the grease and repla...

Re: Fine Offset parts source?

Hi, They seem to be available for £15.50 + £3 shipping here . That seems ridiculously high as it's more than the price of their Wind Vane and Rain sensors. Waters and Stanton (£10.95 + shipping) appear to be out of stock, but a search for "Ambient", or similar keywords. might find ...

Re: Watson W-8681-Solar

Hi, Welcome to the forum. AFAIK the 8681-Solar Pod is identical to the WH-308x family, so did you look at the long thread I linked at the top of this page? Unfortunately the photos are no longer attached, but it became apparent that there were several different faults with the original Pods. My firs...

Re: 1% relative humidity outside - I don't think so!

Hi, I thought that Davis use one of the "Legacy" (analogue) Sensirion SHT... Humidity sensors. They're more expensive, difficult to obtain and very small SMD devices, so difficult to fit. Take a look at this thread and perhaps look for posts from Belfyboy on the forum. Cheers, Alan.

Re: Weather Station features

Hi,

See the Weatherduino project and in particular the Weatherduino Pro2Plus receiver. Not an off-the-shelf system, but becoming more mature with some of the circuit boards now fully assembled as an option.

Cheers, Alan.

Re: Ambient Weather 2080 - Console Problems

Hi, Yes, the 1080/81 stations are still available, for example also here and from Clas Ohlson, etc.. Perhaps slightly different to Maplin's because of 868 MHz radio frequency (cf 434 MHz) and a Radio Controlled Clock, etc. But the great advantage of Maplin was that they sold each of the outdoor sens...

Re: Which weather station to buy??

Hi, my old Maplin N96FY (a Fine Offset, rebranded), which Maplin were often selling half price (£50, $70) has been going strong for 8-9 years now. Ah yes, that was probably the "old" version where the "wireless protocol" was far better engineered than later versions (but almost i...
