Re: Weather Station features

Hi,

See the Weatherduino project and in particular the Weatherduino Pro2Plus receiver. Not an off-the-shelf system, but becoming more mature with some of the circuit boards now fully assembled as an option.

Cheers, Alan.

Re: Ambient Weather 2080 - Console Problems

Hi, Yes, the 1080/81 stations are still available, for example also here and from Clas Ohlson, etc.. Perhaps slightly different to Maplin's because of 868 MHz radio frequency (cf 434 MHz) and a Radio Controlled Clock, etc. But the great advantage of Maplin was that they sold each of the outdoor sens...

Re: Which weather station to buy??

Hi, my old Maplin N96FY (a Fine Offset, rebranded), which Maplin were often selling half price (£50, $70) has been going strong for 8-9 years now. Ah yes, that was probably the "old" version where the "wireless protocol" was far better engineered than later versions (but almost i...

Re: Ambient Weather 2080 - Console Problems

Hi, you can order the console from misolie in china here: Be careful to check the specification of exactly what you order. The stations may use 434, 868 or 915 MHz radio frequency. The link appears to be for a full station (at 434 MHz), but note that although it says "Solar Sensors", it is...

Re: wh1080 clas olhson

Hi, am I right in thinking that to get the 'green light' console working I need a 'Watson 8681-HHT Pass 14' transmitter?. AFAIK no, not if the Green Light Console has a "grey" surround. That appears to be the old "Pass 7" protocol, but your photo shows a "Pass 14" trans...

Re: wh1080 clas olhson

Hi, Yes, Clas Ohlson appear to have been one of the last suppliers to change to the "new" wireless protocol, I think at the same time as the blue backlight was introduced. Note that although it is quite "easy" to receive and decode the "new" OOK protocol (e.g. with a Ra...

Re: Raspberry PI link to weather station using the supplied transmitter?

Hi,

Ah yes, I thought I'd answered that question.

One of the hazards of an OP asking the same question in more than one thread. ;)

Cheers, Alan.

Re: Wind Speed Abnormality

Hi Andy, Yes your diagnosis sounds very probably correct, but a few easy things you can try first: Windspeeds are generally lower at night so the new anemometer might just be "stiff". Is it definitely rotating at night when no wind is recorded? I presume the slightly elevated zero line on ...

Re: Raspberry PI and Maplin N96GY stopped working

Hi, ....has anyone managed to receive the signal directly from the weather station onto a Raspberry PI so as to by pass the receiver/display? Yes, do a search on this forum and elsewhere for Kevin Sangeelee, for example here . The "Maplin" station is a WH1081 in one of its numerous "f...

Re: MAplin W1081 Fail need advice on replacement

Hi, AFAIK the WH-1081 is still being manufactured and is available with various "badge" names. The most obvious is the very similar WH-1080 from Clas Ohlson which adds a Radio Controlled Clock [EDIT: might have been removed], 868MHz radio link and a blue backlight, but all of those feature...

Re: Intermittent wind speed in Fine Offset WH1080

Hi, Yes, anemometer (speed) on the two middle pins (or Rain on the other connector) and Direction (vane) on the two "Outer" pins (of 4 in RJ11). Polarity not critical (the sensor circuit is effectively symmetrical). Contacts 1 and 6 (of RJ12, if used) are not connected. Interestingly, the ...

Re: Sunshine hours

If UV index is above 0 then count that the Sun is shining? That's very unlikely to give a useful value. In summer, the UV Index can be well above zero, even under cloudy skies (and resolved only as an integer). Estimation of "The Sun is Shining" can be quite difficult (particularly betwee...

Re: WH2080 hangs up and memory lockup

Hi, Welcome to the forum. You might find more information in the Fine Offset section of the forum. Maybe you have a (new) local Radio Frequency Interference problem, or maybe the station (Console or more usually the Transmitter) has become faulty (not that uncommon with these low cost stations). I'm...

Re: Intermittent wind speed in Fine Offset WH1080

Hi, Yes you can probably assemble the connectors in a bench vice or with a simple "Punch Down" tool, but you can get a proper crimp tool from ebay for about £4. You might even find a seller that will bundle ten RJ11 or RJ12 (6p6c) with the crimper at a modest cost (but normally they will b...

Re: Intermittent wind speed in Fine Offset WH1080

Hi, I didn't respond to this particular thread because most had already been said before. Just to clarify, as a test you can plug the short anemometer cable directly into the Rain socket and rotate it a few times. But note that it may take up to 48 seconds before the reported "Rain" sudden...
