Re: how to connect the router directly to the FO ?
I have been using a cheap pair of Cat5 USB extenders for about two years with my WH3081. It's the perfect solution as I already have a patch panel and RJ45 wall sockets installed. Even though the extenders were only USB1.1, I never really encountered any problems. After all, the fine offset device p...

Re: batteries
Looks like it's time to buy a replacement transmitter. Maybe something has corroded on the circuit board and has bridged two circuit traces, and is causing battery current to leak excessively. Or the chip has somehow gone haywire. Otherwise you can hook up an external 3v power supply, so you never n...

Re: Problems with station communication: USB locks up comple
I have been running 1.9.3 build 1058 for the past 9 months, with the FO Sync option set. The station is a one year old WH3081. I have not encountered any locking up of the station. This was whilst I was overseas for several months! Over the past 9 months, I haven't needed to remove the batteries at ...

Re: Suitably impressed
I'd have to agree with the WD40 trick. WD40 is designed to drive away moisture. This is why it's touted as a way to 'start wet engines'. Standard lubricants may be somewhat hygroscopic, so over time, moisture can get in, and when the temperature drops below freezing, the lubricant becomes quite a ni...

Re: Problems with station communication: USB locks up comple
I've been using build 1055 since mid December 2012. Unfortunately my station's initialisation bytes became corrupt a few days ago. So it's no better than before. I am about to try build 1058, after duly resetting the station for the 6th time in a year. I'm wondering whether the memory reading clash ...

Re: Problems with station communication: USB locks up comple
If it re-synchronises every 24 hours, doesn't that mean there is the possibility of a clash every 24 hours? As you said before, synchronising results in reading from the station more frequently. It sounds like it defeats the purpose.

Re: Problems with station communication: USB locks up comple
Note that this isn't a fix, it's a work around. And because the process of synchronising the reading of data necessarily involves reading the data - at a higher rate than normal - there is always going to be the risk that the problem will occur during the synchronisation process itself. The risk of...

Re: Problems with station communication: USB locks up comple
Thanks Steve. This is quite timely, as I will be leaving my setup unattended for a few months. It's always a matter of time before the station stops responding. For me, sometimes it can go for two months, sometimes two weeks. But when it does happen, losing a chunk of readings is always annoying whe...

Re: WS-1090 Lifespan
Sounds like your unit has a manufacturing defect and you were lucky to have it working up to now. There could be bad (dry) solar joints in the vicinity of the humidity sensor which were causing your intermittent 99% humidity readings. Maybe some other critical part has now given way, leading to tota...

Re: No Data Transmitter / Receiver Issue
It comes down to poor design. Surely it wouldn't take much effort to design the battery compartment so the positive contact spring is recessed, thereby preventing contact with the AA cell should it be inserted with reverse polarity. You get what you pay for. Otherwise, it is a ploy by FOSHK to incre...

Re: WH3080 lost when it's beginning rain
Keep in mind that the rain sensor is normally connected through the solar pod, which has connections to the battery supply. If there is a writing fault in the solar pod, the reed switch in the rain sensor could end up shorting out the power supply rails, thereby causing the transmitter to reset and ...

Re: Fine Offset WH1080 Transmitter/Thermo-Igro: red led "ste
Did you try taking the transmitter indoors for at least a day to keep it out of the rain and fog (if any)? This might help diagnose a moisture related problem.

Re: Fine Offset WH1080 Transmitter/Thermo-Igro: red led "ste
Probably the microprocessor in the transmitter has failed. Maybe due to corrosion from exposure to moisture? The supplied stevenson screen isn't really adequate for shielding against things like horizontal rain in windy conditions.

Re: Problems with station communication
Maybe it's due to luck (or lack thereof) that your FO console gets hit by a cosmic ray? Cosmic rays can cause memory corruption. Which explains why others (and myself) have needed to reset our station after the 55 FF initialisation bits were corrupted for no apparent reason. A least that's my theory...
