Re: Newbie buying a weather station in Australia

Hi Darryl, The USA versions probably use a different radio frequency which may not strictly be "legal" in Australia. But my main reservation about an import is that the Fine Offset Quality Control is not all that it might be, so the possibilty of a warranty return/repair should be consider...

Re: Weather related sensor

Hi, Having been designing electronic "gadgets" for almost 50 years, I'm all for a simple "mechanical" solution. ;) A weighted float on a cord turning a pulley (e.g. a bicycle wheel) and potentiometer seems the simplest. To make the pulley a more manageable diameter could use a si...

Re: WS 1090 inside temp and humidity false readings

Hi, The outdoor temperature sensor uses only a thermistor with a simple A/D converter (shared with the wind vane) but I don't know about the indoor sensor. There are details of the construction in this sticky at the top of the Fine Offset section. Always check/change the batteries first, but the dub...

Re: WH 3080 Lost Comms

I have moved the receiver directly under the transmitter and there is about 15 feet separation through an iron roof and it still drops out after a period of time. Hi Daryl, With a 3080 I got a "lost contact" with the receiver about 15 feet below the transmitter even without an "iron ...

Re: How do I prevent data gaps when clearing device memory?

Hi, As already said it's not necessary to clear the memory, but if you want to reset the "memory clock face" for example to remind you when the next download will be necessary then I think you just need to change your procedure slightly. I close Cumulus, Open EasyWeather, export all data f...

Re: Tempature Spike Sources?

I've put ferrite cores on each end of the Cat 5 TP wire I used to remote-locate the sender unit. Hi Scott, Does the cable extend the sensor cables, or have you another remote connection for example to use a distant power supply? I can't see any harm in "earthing" the spare conductors in t...

Re: Weather related sensor

Hi Steve, Some immediate thoughts: The resistance of water depends so much on its "purity" that I doubt if a single resistance method can be made to work. But you could make a "ladder" of resistance sensors with "rungs" every 2.5 - 5 cms and code the level from the numb...

Re: WS-1090 or WS-2080?

Hi, IMHO the Quality Control of Fine Offset stations (and possibly the general design tolerancing of most/all 434/868/915 MHz equipment) is such that comparing specifications of 300 v 330 feet is pointless (they probably just used a different value when converting from metric). Certainly, in theory,...

Re: WH-3080 Transmitter Batteries

Hi Geoff, (How) did you resolve the issue? I ask because a 3080 which I installed for a friend, just a few months ago, has already started showing the "Low TX battery" icon. I've checked the (so called rechargeable alkaline)batteries supplied with the kit, which measure 2.6 volts - IMHO al...

Re: WMR88 From Amazon appears to be a grey import.

Hi Ian, Ah, I see you've made your decision whilst I've been typing, but I'll post my thoughts anyway. I suspect that Amazon don't actually read the reviews (except perhaps the first from each reviewer) so I wouldn't expect any "result" from that avenue. Personally, I intentionally purchas...

Re: New model of Fine Offset

Hi Ian,

It doesn't have the magic words "With PC interface" in its description (and I can't see any reference to USB or memory in its specification) so its unlikely to be suitable for Cumulus. Bigger numbers don't necessarily mean "better" :(

Cheers, Alan.

Re: Incorrectly Low Wind Run measurement ?

Hi Steve, Attached is the zipped diags (I moved out .002 which is quite large) but I think I may need to do some more study and tests. By clearing both the check boxes the Graph looks reasonably consistent with the Wind Run, but then both seem only about half of the spreadsheet value. :( With my ini...

Re: Incorrectly Low Wind Run measurement ?

Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply. I'm running the released 1.9.2 (but not the slightly fixed post-release version). Note I'm also seeing this with 1.9.0 which dates presumably well before June (or even 2011). I posted in the Beta section as I didn't want to clutter up the main forum if my analysis wa...

Incorrectly Low Wind Run measurement ?

Hi, I've only recently put my FO anemometer "on the roof" so hadn't taken much interest in the Wind Run display or records. However, it was quite windy a few days ago but my "Record High" seemed too low. It's given as 140 miles, but summing all the 5 minute logged wind speed entr...

Re: Davis Weather Vue

Hi Nick, There is a link to the Waters & Stanton equivalent ("8681-RGC Spare rain guage with cable for W-8681") in this thread however I see the availability is described as "Low Stock - Phone". But if you can, I would try a few simple tests first (the see-saw just bridges th...
