Re: MICROSOFT Lifecam Studio (Any Good)
Simple setup, thanks. I've been considering one for ages but having nil DIY skills has prevented me from doing anything. Also, I can't decide between inside and outside. Inside is easy but raindrops on the window will ruin images. Outside eliminates that but then you get access problems if it's moun...

Re: MICROSOFT Lifecam Studio (Any Good)
Although too late for the OP I found this excellent guide to choosing a webcam specifically for weather websites.

My pocket say's a USB webcam but my head say's an IP one.

Re: MICROSOFT Lifecam Studio (Any Good)
WebCam now Position in another Temporary Location. It's now showing the rear Garden, if you look closesly you should be able to see the anemometer. So is it any better at the rear or better at the front? Better and you have eliminated the possibility of neighbours complaining about being snooped on...

Re: Frost melting on rain guage and creating false rain read
Yes, the correct way to handle it (according to the UKMO book) is to include it in the total but not count it as a 'rain day'. But there's no good way to handle it automatically; a single tip due to real rain should count as a rain day. I've interrogated dayfile.txt and I have 105 entries where the...

Re: Frost melting on rain guage and creating false rain read
The Met Office Observer's Handbook says that it should count towards the rain total, and if it's known for certain that it didn't actually rain, a note should be made in the log for that day to say where the precipitation came from. I set the RainDayThreshold to 0.02 (inches) so melted frost (usual...

Re: SteelSeries Gauges - version 1.0
Mark,
Sorry to be a pest but after updating the steelseries gauges yesterday I've lost the alternative standard gauges provided by Cumulus.
They should be visible on this page. http://www.cheadlehulmeweather.co.uk/gauges.htm but as you can see I'm just getting placeholders. Any advice appreciated.

Thank you Mark. Funny how you can look at something and not see the problem.
Working fine now.

Re: SteelSeries Gauges - version 1.0
Thanks Mark. I'm using Firefox v9.0.1 and IE8. The former (after a cache delete) shows the image below. I have XP so can't use IE9. IE8 can't support these gauges. The problem persists sadly.

Re: SteelSeries Gauges - version 1.0
Help please Mark! I thought updating my site to your latest version of the gauges would be straight-forward but I have two problems I can't resolve. 1) I'm not seeing your supplied fonts. Instead I see an alternative which looks like Times New Roman. I found the path to your font folder in gauges-ss...

Re: Suggestions/Advice and ways to improve
Also, what txt file is it for me to edit to change the 82 " /hr rain rate I have under "records"? Open Cumulus then Edit - Dayfile.txt. Find the entry for the day in question and scroll over to the right to find the day rainfall amount. There are a total of 3 rainfall columns. You wi...

Re: Suggestions/Advice and ways to improve
I use the free version of FlagCounter on my site. Very pleased with its versatility for a freebie. http://s01.flagcounter.com/more/CXd You can use the edit feature in Cumulus to remove that erroneous rainfall reading. The 3D look on the graphs is subjective but I do find it difficult to see the maxi...

Re: What Happens Upon Loss of Internet Connectivity?
If, like me, you like to keep the missing data to a minimum there was a discussion in this thread on how to achieve this. https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6672 As you have a Davis Vue you have the capability but you'll need WL running which requires VirtualVP running. A little m...

Re: temp trend is showing 0
There is another recently added webtag which shows the actual temp change in the last hour rather than the average over the last 3 which is what the trend one is.
Just an option if you prefer that.
