Re: Main Page Descriptions

I suppose it is possible that the transmitter looks at the highest wind speed in the 48 seconds and then transmits it? If it does then the console would have no need to calculate the gust. Yes - but it would have to have to have some sort of mechanism for measuring it. All these things can do is co...

Re: Main Page Descriptions

I'm not sure what you mean by the first part. As long as you don't get Cumulus to calculate a 10-minute average, there's not really an issue. Cumulus will display the 'gust' value as 'latest' and display the highest of those in the last 10-minutes as 'gust'. It will display the 'speed' or whatever w...

Re: Importing easyweather history

I must have missed your post, Ib, I didn't realise you had done this - sounds great.

Re: The 'rain' problem....

I thought I'd posted an update to my original question..... don;t know where that went ! The forum has this trick where, if someone has replied between you starting a reply and posting it, it points this out to you and asks if you want to revise your reply in the light of this. It's easy to miss, a...

Re: The 'rain' problem....

Hi Adrian, 10 inches of rain sounds reasonable in that period considering where you are. We've had a similar amount even here. Is the 10 inches you're talking about the 'torrential' amount, or is there more? Is it in Easyweather or Cumulus? There's no easy way of getting data from easyweather format...

Re: Main Page Descriptions

Yes, this is the problem I have in trying to guess what their 'gust' could be, if their speed is an average over 48 seconds (no doubt calculated in exactly the way you suggest). As you say, you might imagine that their 'gust' could be the highest value of some set of smaller periods, but this would ...

Re: Weather history

For the current version of Cumulus, it would be the station owner deciding what period to use. Any 'visitor' options would have to be done using some sort of server-side options, like existing stuff that's being developed. For version 2, I'll be looking into making it easier for the web site visitor...

Re: Main Page Descriptions

Bear in mind that when reading the data from the logger at startup, there won't be many readings per 10 minutes (max 2) to create a 10-minute average from.

Re: Weather history

I could - but it would mean changes to the plotting code to work out when to plot. As it is, I just plot all the last n hours entries from the data files at startup, then once a minute while running, nice and simple.

Re: Weather history

I'll have a look at making the limit unrestricted. There are a few things to bear in mind, though: Increasing the graph period will increase the memory usage in Cumulus. And the way Cumulus works currently, when you go from 12 hours to 24 hours, you don't suddenly get 24 hours plotted on the graphs,...

Yes, I will, but I'm not quite ready yet for the flood of requests that will no doubt result

Re: Weather history

I just chose 12 and 24 hours as probably the most useful, then there's the select-a-graph for longer periods, but I realise that has its limitations. There's no real reason why I can't turn the 12/24 option into a completely user-selectable value, and it probably wouldn't be hard to do. The only poi...

Re: Strange data appearing from VP/VirtualVP

I changed the battery in my ISS a while back because it was misbehaving. Not sure if it needed it.

I'm happy for hardware discussion to be in the Cumulus forums, under the appropriate station. Which reminds me, I should probably move this thread...

Re: Main Page Descriptions

There isn't a list as such, but I've discussed this in various places in the forum. I really should write some documentation which describes how the various parameters are derived, but it's finding the time. And I'd still get people asking for the information anyway :( Here is what I said recently a...

Re: Strange data appearing from VP/VirtualVP

To communicate with the VP, I use the DLL from the Davis SDK. The DLL has 'error' values which it supplies when something odd happens (e.g. sensor disconnected). You would have thought that they would have checked for negative rain rate and supplied an error value instead - the DLL is supposed to ma...
