I wonder if Steve will be breaking any records in Sanday?

It's unlikely. It'll probably be similar here to what we had yesterday, which was a high average of 51 mph, high gust of 77 mph.

It was a bit wild here for 30 mins this dinner time: thunder and lightning, driving rain and so much hail it was running down the street in waves. There was a really interesting 'bump' in the pressure immediately afterward, much bigger than usual

“It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily.
"So it is."
"And freezing."
"Is it?"
"Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately.”

The wind stepped up quite a bit at the same time with a peak gust of 53.6kmh and a 10-min average of 25.4kmh, no records there though. Rain fall rate was surprisingly 'low' at just 18mm/hr (and only 4.1mm in total) - I suspect it was too blustery to record effectively plus the gauge probably got chock-full of hail.

We've got pressure falling very rapidly at the moment (at -3.0hPa/hr) so looks like it might liven-up abit again this morning

Pressure currently falling very rapidly - 3.4hPa / hr. Not a nice morning. :(

Looking at the satellite image there's a very clearly defined back edge to the cold front. That will be interesting when it comes through in a few hours.

Looks like cold front has arrived here. Should be interesting to see what temp drop and pressure rise there is. Not to mention wind gusts!

Ray, Cheshire.

Hi Ron,

The storm arriving later today is the worst of the winter so far. The Met Office has just issued a Red warning for Wales and NW England. This is rare. I'm in the amber warning area but the wind will still gust over 60mph (96kph).

I've just recorded the first gust over 30mph. Worse to come. This is a very fast moving depression but is tracking NNE towards Scotland so you should be okay.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Glorious sunny day up here, and not too windy (F5). Looks nasty down there. Looks like your wind speed records are likely to go today, Ray.

Ouch! :o Only 3hPa/hr here but it's now raining and getting windy. The southern half of the UK has had its wettest winter in 200 years. Dreadful flooding in the SW and now, the Thames to the west of London. No snow but too much rain.

Steve, about time you had some decent weather up there. Yes, I fully expect my wind gust record to go today. I just hope the anemometer and the pole it's attached to remain in place.

Fancy a flight down to Manchester this pm? ;) That should test your skills.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.
