March 2014 weather

March 2014 was an exeptional month again in The Netherlands :

It was the third warmest march since (officiial) measurements began in 1901 average temp was 8.4 C ( long term 6.2 C)

At my station the average temperature was 8,0 C (long term average nearest metar 5,6 C)
It was dry with 33.4 mm rain
Remarkable we had almost equal frostdays in March (8) as in the whole winter dec/jan/feb (11 frostdays)

As I've no solarsensor the official sunshine hours are broken for the first month of the spring on most places more as 200 hours of sun thats more or equal as the average in the summermonths.

We had 3 days with a temperature above 20.0 C (warm days) this is not happened since measurements began in the moth March.

The average temperature since jan 1st is about 2.4 C above the long term average

Our March 2014 continued with the very cold winter we have had right from November on...
Min -23.3 °C which is -8.2 lower than station average since 2009 (Environment Canada 1981-2010 extreme -24.8)
Max +11.0 °C which is -4.6 lower than station average since 2009 (EC 1981-2010 extreme +24.8)
Avg -3.4 °C which is -3.1 lower than station average since 2009 (EC 1981-2010 average -0.1)
App -27.1 °C which is -13.0 lower than station average since 2009
Wind Chill -27.0 °C which is -12.7 lower than station average since 2009
Snow on ground for all 31 days (EC 1981-2010 average 14.2 days)
Avg snow depth 13.6 cm (EC 1981-2010 average 3 cm)

The good side is that the local ski club has had their best winter of skiing ever, and we have enjoyed 273.3 hrs of sunshine (73.9% of 370.4 hrs daylight)

And April so far has brought in spring type weather...

March 2014 compared to March 2013 makes it difficult to believe we are talking about the same month.

Av Temp = 4.3 last year 7.8 this year
Frost days = 16 last year 1 this year
Snow falling = 4 last year 0 this year
