Crazy November weather in the UK

Post by RayProudfoot »

Here we are at the 13th day of November and the mean temperature for my station at 53° 21'N is 11.8°C , 4.9°C above the 30 year average! :o

My station has also broken the max temp for November at 18.2°C last Tuesday and that day also had a new highest minimum of 14.1°C.

The November mean is higher than that for last May (11.0°C) and also October (11.0°C).

The highest max broke a record set in November 1946 and some may remember the winter of 1946-47 was one of the coldest and snowiest of the 20th century. Hmmm... :?

This evening I find myself 'celebrating' the first frost of the season! There was a time when the first frosts came at the beginning of November, at the latest, and a significant, albeit brief fall of snow at the end.

Most of my celebration was due to a new feature I introduced to my web page in the summer whereby the colour of the temperature figure turns blue, and the word 'Freezing' appears during freezing temperatures. I've had longer than I expected to wait in order to test it!

I posted this on Facebook last night…
Great weather. It has been overcast for a lot of the day but it is 7.30 pm, it has been dark for nearly three hours and it is the same temperature as the same day in August. It will probably become cooler overnight though.

In fact, the temperature didn't go down and currently it is 24.3°C, the same as 22nd August at this time.
At this time last year, it was 6.2°C.

The 10th November, was 15.9C here. Warmest November day 02/11/2007 - 16.8C.

This November currently tied as warmest month with 2007, but I suspect the next few days will reduce the month's average a bit.

Just as crazy are the minimum temperatures. On the 10th Nov the night time low was 14.3C As a lowest daily temperature, that was only exceeded 4 times in August!

I tallied up my rainfall totals from the manual 5 inch gauge and for November 2015 it came to 246.1mm :o

That's the wettest month for me since December 2011.

Pretty soggy (and it's been fairly blowy too, 61mph on Sunday afternoon)....

Hi,
Just checked my electronic PWS with it's 8inch tipping bucket and it's telling me 250.5mm. So, if you believe that figure then it's a new all time high monthly rainfall total in the 10 years opertaing at the current location.
What is truly depressing is that there was "measurable precipitation", as they say, on 28 out of 30 days...

Even heard on the local news this evening that this winter is going to be "Snowmageddon". No idea where that's come from but we'll find out in due course. ;)

cheers,
Bill.

Yes, it was very mild here during the first part of November. I recorded a highest temperature of 16.6°C at 14:23 on 07 November 2015!
