Storm Gertrude

Post by steve »

Highest gust so far 67 mph, peak 10-minute average 44 mph (Gale Force 8). Expecting Storm Force 10 soon, gusting to around 80 mph. We won't get the worst of it here, though. Expecting power to go off at some point.

Stay safe, everyone!

Not as exposed as you but 66.9 kts at 04:30 and 52.6 kts 10 minute average at same time. No damage yet, surprisingly. Not even in top ten of gusts!

Yes, quite remarkable. It does keep going off for a second every now and then.

Impressive! You've been pipped by Lerwick (96 mph) - but I bet the Lerwick anemometer exposure is better than yours, so it may be that your gust was stronger!

Code: Select all

Just had a new all-time high gust - 94 mph.
But 151.3 km/h sounds more impressive ;)

makes my all-time high of 79.1 km/h look pretty feeble!

Trust you will remain safe and the house sound...

I bet! Luckily, our house is very well built (not saying yours isn't as it would have to be built strongly for those wind speeds) so when we had the 70 mph wind gust back on 14/02/2014, only the windows bent inwards!

The highest gust I recorded here (Herston, South Ronaldsay) was a mere 63mph. That's quite a difference!

Well, you never know. As the cold air digs in behind Gertrude there might be some of the white stuff on Steve's garden tomorrow!

US-built houses would never make it out there! LOL.

I wonder if housing structures are under a special code to withstand the types of winds that you experience?

Any damage to your homestead and/or surrounding area? I recall last time you had a major storm, you mentioned a greenhouse nearby suffered damage.
