With Storm Aileen due to hit the UK tonight there seems to be a high possibility winds could gust to 70mph. That would mean a new record for this station in NE Cheshire.

Previous highest for this station was 56mph on 12 Feb 2014 and 55mph back on 23 Feb 2017 when Doris hit.

No great gusts yet but pressure is falling very rapidly. Not a good sign.

I'm afraid the Met Office got this completely wrong. Max gust of 35mph and 0.03" of rain since midnight. But this station was in the amber warning area with gusts estimated to be as high as 75mph.

in NI we only got a Yellow warning for Rain, which has been heavy enough especially right this minute...

Simon,

Those are showers and we've had the same today with another 0.23" (6mm). Aileen is now over Denmark so today's rain is not as a direct result of the storm.
