Ah, lucky you getting the wind funneling up the street onto your anemometer :)

My high gust was 82.6 km/h, a record for me too 8-)

At Port Levy on Banks Peninsula, New Zealand, we had minimum pressure of 977.3 hPa at 17:00 on 17-Sep-2010.
This compares with nearby AWSs:
Lyttelton Harbour: 978.3 at 15:50
Le Bons Bay: 976.0 at 13:00

Also, between 04:30 and 05:00 on 4-Sep-2010, we had 19.2 mm of rainfall on a starry, clear night. We also happened to have a Richter magnitude 7.1 earthquake at 04:35.

The rain gauge got a good shaking I see :)

Trust you are OK after that and all the aftershocks (I'm on both US an NZ lists for earthquake notifiction and I notice Canterbury is still getting multiple 3.5+ shocks each day...)

We're bearing up, but we're sick of these aftershocks.
This morning at 06:22 as I was about to get out of bed we got another good one. 4.54 Richter, but it felt more. The house lurched and pictures banged against the wall.

As I speak, we just had another small one...............

Here's an excellent site that shows how shaky we are:

The quake drums, IMHO, give a better overall picture

http://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/drums/index.html

but that is looking at it from a relatively stable Aus base (even if UnZud and Aus are slowly moving towards each other :P

Wow!! You need to get a second rain gauge and put a cover over it so you can use it as an eathquake gauge. ;)

I've seen articles around that show how to build your own seismomeeter - maybe Steve needs to build another channel into Cumulus to record data from one of these gauges :)

Here's one such site: http://www.infiltec.com/seismo/

Steve: :)

It really puts it into perspective this way - 779 quakes since Sept 4....

Yeah, well, for those of us who are actually experiencing the aftershocks, the Crowe site (http://quake.crowe.co.nz/) is the one that is most helpful. And by clicking on the actual quake in the panel to the right, you can see how close it was to where you live. For the AS at 6:22 this morning, it was at Templeton only 5 km from my house but it was deep (13 km), so it was short and sharp. Like a truck hitting the building. The shallow ones are much worse because things shake for many seconds.

Interesting :) I find seismometry interesting generally and have had a life-long interest in geology. Living in the UK this is mainly academic, of course, though we do occasionally get minor tremours. I'd like to make my own geophone, amplify and filter the signals and connect to one of the analogue inputs of my USB interface card. (One is currently connected to a photovoltaic cell to measure light levels - when I get around to it)

Maybe another little project for the future
