There must be quite a bit of radiation coming through the little stevenson screen. This happens to mine so i multiply the temperatures to 0.97% (thanks to cumulus :D ) so if my station reads 30 it is actually 29.1 which is much more accurate.

That's a good possibility, but what happens at night or when the sun isn't shinning, you temps are going to inaccurate too. :(

I'm in the throws of repositioning my temp sensor and making a larger screen so hopefully that will give a more accurate reading.

BTW, where are you?

Our average monthly maximum temperature throughout the year ranges between 30.5C and 33.3C. Over the last 70 years, our annual average is 32C. If it wasn't for all the cyclone activity breaking rain records this wet season we would normally have over 30C all the time.
As for minimums, ha ha.........ahem...gets down to 19.3 and up to 25.3 with an annual mean minimum of 23.2. That probably will explain why I have a record high minimum of 28.6C! Thank you to whoever invented aircons!

FINALLY, we have rain!!!

Apart from a measley 0.3mm on the last day of Feb we had no rain since the end of January (65 days)

...but since midnight we've had 14.4mm with hopefully more on the way over the next few days.

WestOz, I was wondering if we'd hear from you when the rains came. I've been keeping my eye on Perth's weather over the last few weeks and occasionally looking in on your site. Temps are back to normal as well.

Hi Dave
If you are talking about that burst of rain at 4:40am this morning, I only got 36mm rain rate. Seems a bit strange, maybe I need to raise the sides of my rain guage in case I am losing most of it.
I must admit that I was surprised it was only 36mm.

Morning Terry, yes it was 4.42am this morning I recorded 177mm/hr. It was amazingly heavy, roaring in fact.

It might have been heavier down my end of the street - but I doubt the difference is that big. Davis gauges do get higher rates than FO models remember. I was watching my console and the rain rate exceeded 100 mm/hr for 2 minutes or so.

The other weather stations in the area didn't show what you got so it must have been very localised.
Certainly was very noisy....woke me up from my beauty sleep :-(

Have you considered putting your data on Weather Underground?

Yes, don't forget that for short bursts of rain, the Davis rain rate calculation will usually yield higher figures than the Cumulus 5-minute average Fine Offset calculation. 100 mm/hr for 2 minutes sounds about the same as 36 mm/hr over a 5-minute period.

Had some pretty good storms come through the area today. The highest rain rate was approximately 8.75 a couple of years back on my old weather station so we have a new record.

Pity I lost my old data as a couple of months ago we got 20" of rain in 30 days. Extreme flooding in the Ohio River Valley. A third of the town was flooded with another 5' above that near record crest predicted until the Army blew the levees in Missouri which saved us from more flooding.

Well here is today's record rain rate.

A modest by some standards all time temperature high yesterday for me at 30.2C, and it looks like it may be broken again today.
