There has got to be a easy way to promote ones site!!!!

Post by ace2 »

Any ideas on free promoting of ones site?
I use Facebook groups, but the Max posts are around 40-50, weather station top sites, Craig List and a couple of cam submit sites.
This generates traffic, but not continuing traffic, only traffic on the day of posting......
Thoughts and ideas??

Why do you have a need to raise hits? Are you trying to make money off it? If so, maybe a weather station isn't the right content you want to be serving up.
Maybe read up on SEO to raise it up google ranks.

Never going to make money off a weather site, just trying to share it around.....

I'm keen on flight simulation and on the forums I use I embed the php code you see in my sig into my forum signatures.

The curious will click on it and that is then recorded by the flagcounter software I use. 30 day average visits is 21 with an all-time max of 121. People from 119 countries have visited it with page views at 90,500 over a few years.

Having a memorable url also helps. Mine is associated with the town where I live. My site is advert-free and I see it as providing a public service both for locals and those interested in the weather in England.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Chris,

Thanks. Your webcam videos are excellent even if they show clear blue skies from dawn to dusk! That's something I can only dream of here in cloudy England and especially around the Manchester area.

One other thing you could do to promote your site is if you have a community magazine that is distributed free. I wrote an article for mine and that generated quite a bit of interest. The local Women's Guild asked me to do a presentation but I didn't fancy it as I'm not a confident speaker.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

That was a one off day with clear sky....
Tomorrow will not be the same, rain they say!!!

Mm, might try the local messenger, which is a free weekly news paper, I dare say they'll charge!!!
I've been posting flyers up at librarys with a QR code and tear offs, but I'll try that news paper..
Thanks

If you're prepared to write up an analysis of the year's weather then any reasonable newspaper / distributed community magazine should not charge you. You're providing a community service. Emphasise that point when you contact them.

I'll keep an eye out for your weather tomorrow. As I type this the sun is out but I'm not holding my breath! :D
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Continuing on from what Ray said about memorable URL's, it helps greatly if the address of your website has the location of the weather station in it and also the website meta data. For example, a weather station in Eastleigh may be: http://www.eastleighweather.xxxx.

If some one searches for 'weather in Eastleigh', the likelihood of something like 'duke2weather' turning up high in the search results is low. It's not relevant.

Don't spam keywords. Search engines only look at the first few, if there are lots, they will be seen as spam and you'll get knocked down. So choose 4 or 5 'key' words.
