two temperature sensors

Post by juliang »

Can anyone recommend a weather station or devices to meet these requirements?
a temperature sensor to go int the green house
a weather station with the ability to connect to a mac via usb
strong radio signal - it needs to be receivable after travelling 50m and passing through 2 brick walls.

O r do I have to buy a standard weather station and a separate data logging system and then set them both to feed into the mac via two usb ports?

If you have mains supply in the greenhouse, a powerline homeplug might be the solution. WH-1080 sensors outside the greenhouse, console in the greenhouse, connected to a RPI running Cumulus MX and from there to the homeplug. Access to weather data with the in home homeplug connected to the router, using your browser.

Hi,

AFAIK, a Davis station which supports "soil temperature" sensors should (easily) meet your sensing and wireless range requirements, but at a (considerable) price.

Some lower-cost stations /combinations may provide the additional sensor(s) but with questionable wireless range.

Take a look at the Weatherduino Project which should offer multiple sensors (by virtue of its custom software design) and sufficient wireless range, due to its high(ish) power transmitter. But not an "easy" project, particularly if only limited (solar) power is available for the transmitter(s).

Cumulus MX should meet the "Mac" requirement.

Cheers, Alan.
