Advice regarding additional web address from 123-reg

My website address - www.cheadlehulmeweather.co.uk - has been registered with 123-reg since April 2009.

I have received an email from them advising the address www.cheadlehulmeweather.uk is reserved for me and will be free for use for two years.

They said business rivals may wish to use this and therefore compete with my business.

Well I'm not a business of course and my gut feeling is not to take up the offer because it would increase my expenditure in a couple of years and for no tangible benefit as far as I can see.

I don't claim to be an expert in these things so would appreciate the advice from others. It seems like an attempt to get me to part with more money.

I've had the same email, and I don't propose to take up their offer for my .co.uk domain (which I only really use for email anyway).

Hi Ray,
i would get it... it is free and after 2 years only a slight cost. Or you could cancel at that time if you have no more interest (presume you're not entering in to a long term contract).

Unless you want to use it for a second website, no benefit other than you can say visit my site at http://www.cheadlehulmeweather.uk
And while you're at it might as well get http://www.cheadlehulmeweather.com at only $0.99 (I see http://www.cheadlehulmeweather.uk is listed at $13.39 so much more valuable ;) )

Enjoy,
Paul

Thanks Paul but I think I'll follow Steve's advice. It seems to be nothing more than a marketing strategy to raise their income.

Visitors to my site probably have it bookmarked anyway. I also link to it in my sig in various fora including this one.

I just went to GoDaddy.com and entered Ray's url with .uk and then .com
No doubt it is a special promotion, maybe there was fine print that I didn't read.
