Hi,
This may be a stupid question but I am encountering a really annoying problem on Win 7 Pro.
I'm using Mozilla Firefox which up until now has performed absolutely flawlessly.
I have just upgraded to a genuine copy of Win 7 pro and when I'm typing like this after around 40 to 50 seconds the browser tool bar grays out and I have to press the mouse key to bring the text input back.
Is there a setting I've missed? It's done it three times since I've started this already!
It's a real pain in the ar*e!

In that case it was something to do with Flash, but that may not be the cause in your case, of course.

An update, after looking through the solutions listed it turned out, probably, not to be flash related. Nothing worked.
I then consulted further....
The best solution, it seems, is to run the browser in as an XP sp3 package in compatability mode
This indeed does seem to stop the problem, nothing un-toward so far.
It makes one wonder what's the point of upgrading ?!

The moral is, if it works don't fix it!

However at least it mitigates the problem if not exactly solving it....

Indeed; I gave up on Firefox a while ago and moved to Chrome, after being a big Firefox fan for many years.

It might very well come to that!

It has come to pass that firefox has been expunged...

Reluctant to go Chrome given Google's propensity to try and sell you your own granny with it's advertising.

Mmmm Google or Mr Gates, talk about a rock and a hard place!

So back to IE.... (for the time being )

This is a pain. It does it in everything!!!!
Even on the microsoft support site there are discussions about it but no solutions!
I've tried adjusting various display settings in the registry and it's still effing doing it.
I can't even get XP back. What a waste of time and money moving to 7 has been.
If anyone has any other ideas I'd love to hear them.

How did you install W7, a clean install or did you try to upgrade to it?

It was an "upgrade" to Pro from Enterprise through my employer. However after downloading the files the machine flashed the message that this wasn't possible and a full re-install was needed.
It then did what it did.
I'm a heartbeat away from putting a hammer through the drive and putting a new one in with XP on it.
I have spent hours trying to get this to stop!
Whilst typing this it has done it three times. make it four times.
Annoying to the max.

If you launch Task Manager and select the Processes tab you can sort by CPU descending. That will show you what processes are taking CPU time and you might be able to identify the 'culprit'.

It does sound like something is taking the focus away from your browser. Once we establish what it is then we're half-way to fixing it.

The only things showing activity is the desktop windows explorer and under "All Users" the System Idle Process is the only other item.
Out of curiosity I tried ending them with no success.

Ending Windows Explorer will probably remove all your desktop icons. It does in XP. You do need to wait until the problem occurs. It may not be easy to spot.

Do you have anti-virus software running?

Hi Ray,
Thanks for the url. I had followed the instructions on a variety of similar threads without success.
I am now using my laptop!
Over the past couple of hours I have disabled umpteen functions, settings and removed software up to and including the wireless card! (Hence using the laptop....)
For my own sanity I have now stopped.
It is the most resilient bug I have ever come across
I will have another go later in the week.
Thanks to all for your help and suggestions it is much appreciated.
