Help! My computer blew up!
Yup. Somewhere between 10:01 and 10:06....I checked Weather Underground for the latest update....geeky hey Anyway, I'm thinking of loading Cumulus onto my wifes laptop (using it now) and continue from here (until mine is fixed). Or do I get mine fixed ASAP and hope my FO weather station has enough memory to hold the information Cumulus is missing until I connect it back up.
Your thoughts please?

What is your data logging interval on the FO? That will let us work out how long it can last without a PC connection

Re: Help! My computer blew up!
I can't check. Must revert to my memory ( )..........that hurts.....I think I made it.....yes I did. I made it use up the memory as fast as possible using the lowest option of 5 minutes. DOH! And without my computer or a working touchpad I can't change it. So Daj, what's the memory of my FO WH1081, and more importantly, how many hours will it last?daj wrote:What is your data logging interval on the FO? Re: Help! My computer blew up!
Your station has 4080 memory slots.
So with a 5-minute interval it will take about 2 weeks before it wraps and overwrites old data.
Should be enough time for you to get your PC fixed - or to buy a new one

I'm using a refurbished Pentium 4 PC which came with Windows XP Pro installed on it, for all my Windows stuff. Got it through Amazon for about 100 UK pounds. Works fine

Hi Michael
I often find it is only a PSU that has failed, may be worth trying a new one and give the PC a good clean out with a vacuum cleaner and 1/4" paint brush.

Yup. PSU. Last one was upgraded 18 months ago.
If you hear your fans going fast or loud, clean out your computer! My CPU fan was blocked, all 3 fans had to go full speed and the PSU gave out.
Must take apart my noisy PS3 then!

Put the computer on the desk, not on the floor amongst the fluff and dog hairs.

Re: Help! My computer blew up!
We humans shed loads of dead skin cells all the time, there's fibres off our clothes too - our pets are not to blame for all of it. And it still applies however clean you keep yourself, clothes and the house! Computers need regular cleaning out.

Re: Help! My computer blew up!
Very true Gina, I regularly blow out the dust that collects inside the PC, monitor and TV set using a compressed air jet.

Re: Help! My computer blew up!
I agree that dust buildup inside is often a big problem in hot weather. One day a few years ago I had three clients phone on the same day because their computers had stopped. All three were due to dust build up on the coolking fins of the CPU cooler.

Hi
Unfortunately at this time in Queensland dust is not our major problem. Seriously moisture is one of the biggest killers here. We were not in the floods, but with the high humidity my wife's laptop died, cost me a fortune for a replacement, my hard drive had a dummy spit and had to be replaced and a number of friends had similar problems over a 2 week period. I have never seen so many computer die in such a short time in too many years as a lecturer in computer technology. Other problem is mould due to the high humidity. Can't wait for the dry weather.
