Over the last couple of weeks my cumulus data has gone bonkers with some spikes in the readings, for example a few days ago it read over 100mm rain in a day when it was more like 3mm the same with temperature about a week ago it recorded a reading of -40c!?!. The problem i have with this is that it throws all my records out and it seems to take me an age to put it right, it does not seem to be as simple as editing out the spike/error as i still have to then edit all the ini files to make it look right. Is there an easier way of doing this as its just doing my head in to the point of giving up trying to keep records. One of the most frustrating things is that i cannot seem to change the monthly readings on the main cumulus screen, it should be 39mm for this month and yet it reads 142mm.

The monthly rain total is calculated from the daily totals in dayfile.txt (http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#Where_does_Cumulus_get_its_monthly_and_annual_rainfall_totals_from.3F), so you need to correct those (using the built-in editor) and then restart Cumulus.

The various editors in Cumulus have facilities for extracting data from the log files, so if you correct the log files then the editors can use the corrected data.

You can use the 'spike removal' settings to prevent spikes being recorded in the first place.

You can look at the siting of your weather station to investigate why the spikes occur (see elsewhere in the forum for suggestions).

You could consider getting a better weather station which doesn't generate garbage; there are vast sections of code in Cumulus dedicated to trying to filter out bad readings from these stations, but there are limits to to what I can do. I keep adding more all the time, so you could make sure you are using the latest 'stable' version, which you are not (you don't need to use the 1.9.3 beta if you don't want to, but it seems quite stable itself, and may have more/better garbage removal than 1.9.2, I can't remember).

Thanks Steve, i appreciate your response. I think longer term a better station is required as you have said, but the jump to a significantly better station is a big one money wise.
