Preparing for the Worst...Upgrade Old FO Station
I have a Weather Wise WS1080 (Fine Offset rebrand I recall). It's going on five years old and I'm mentally preparing for the fact that it may fail soon. I'm on transmitter #3 (lightning strike nearby on the last one so not its fault). It's been working well with the occasional connection issues, but, it's a $100 unit and fear I've wrung all the luck out of it. I see this unit on Amazon: Ambient Weather WS-1001-WIFI OBSERVER
Any thoughts? I'm not a huge fan of the all in one integrated unit but if it works, so be it.

My instruments are mounted about 3 feet above my roof line so that's where this unit would go (part of a amateur radio/scanner array).
Scott
EDIT: In hindsight, I guess I have to ask if this is compatible with Cumulus. I don't see anywhere in the description mentioning Easy Weather software.

Hi,EDIT: In hindsight, I guess I have to ask if this is compatible with Cumulus. I don't see anywhere in the description mentioning Easy Weather software.
I don't think that model is supported by Cumulus.

Re: Preparing for the Worst...Upgrade Old FO Station
I am afraid this has come up before and it is not compatible with Cumulus, plus it does not connect to PC via a USB connection as it only uploads directly to Weather Underground via a wireless link to your wireless router.

Re: Preparing for the Worst...Upgrade Old FO Station
The WS1001 wifi has a beta version of EasyWeather available but it just uploads to weather underground. It doesn't even save to a file that cumulus could use.
The console for the WS1001 wifi now has a mini usb port on it but it is recognized by a windows computer as a windows mobile device. You can get to all of the files on the console but as of right now I don't know of any way to access live data from it

I still have not touched my older FO station, crossed fingers keeping me going.
not seeing this one as explicity supported or not supported...Ambient Weather WS-1200 Observer Solar Powered Wireless Weather Station with Solar Radiation and UV.
Should this work with Cumulus?

Grrrrr.
I may just spring for the Davis Vantage Vue Pro 2 unit. Get it over with. I have a $250 gift card to Amazon already so that will take the sting out of it (just a little).
Thanks
Scott

Re: Preparing for the Worst...Upgrade Old FO Station
I bought the Davis VP2 wireless in late 2014 to replace an Ambient WS1090. I found the best price was from Scientific Sales in NJ. The VP2 plus the USB Weather link was $490 before shipping and tax. It has been solid so far with not a single issue.ScottVan wrote:Grrrrr.

Re: Preparing for the Worst...Upgrade Old FO Station
I may do the same. I could do cabled too actually. Prefer it really. I'll look it over. Want to install while it's 80F vs. 8F.VTHokie74 wrote:I bought the Davis VP2 wireless in late 2014 to replace an Ambient WS1090. I found the best price was from Scientific Sales in NJ.
