Hi Steve:

A severe thunderstorm had kept us awake all night, and when I finally got up this morning and checked the Cumulus console, the red error light was flashing. As the FO display looked normal, I shut down Cumulus, set the timestamp in today.ini to 01:50 hours, deleted the repetetive lines in Jul12log.txt and restarted Cumulus. Tada - all the missing data were recovered from the logger.

Is there any way you can say from the diags file what happened shortly after 01:50?

Hi Steve:

I thought it was an USB problem. The strange thing is that the error happened in the middle of the night when nobody was up (well, except my dog :)) to physically disconnect the USB. And I didn't disconnect/reconnect the cable before I restarted Cumulus. Strange - some electrical interference perhaps.

Yes, quite likely; a power surge or dip, perhaps. Windows can announce that the device has been disconnected for reasons other than the cable being unplugged.

The computer Cumulus is running on is a notebook sitting behind a heavy UPS, so I don't think it was a disturbance on the power line (but of course I can't be sure). I was thinking more in the line of an electrical interference at the poorly shielded - or most likely unshielded - USB cable.
