Do you mean that Windows doesn't recognise that the device has been connected? It's not unknown for these stations to have faulty USB connectors out of the box. I assume you've tried different ports and a different cable?

Hi - Windows recognises the device well it see a "USB input device" .
With the device plugged in I start cumulus - I get the downloading data window - themn the following.
The Cumulus software gives the error, "no response" and the error light flashes -and the software then appears to lock up.
I can get no response from Cumulus I have to shut it down through task manager.

You probably need to reset the station, as described here: http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#Cumulu ... .22_screen

The problem where Cumulus locks up when the station doesn't respond is fixed in the 1.9.4 beta version.

The station still isn't responding:

Did you do a full reset? Remove batteries and unplug USB cable?
Where do I get v 1.9.4

Hi,

Yes I did a full reset, I think my device might have a suspect USB port.
I have downloaded v 1.9.4 but unfortunately it does not appear to support usb

That's likely, if a full reset didn't get it going again. Have you tried it with Easyweather?

I don't understand; USB is the only method of connection for Fine Offset stations, there's no alternative. Do you get some kind of USB related error when you run it?

Good - so when you run 1.9.4, you get the same 'station not responding' error, but the Cumulus interface no longer locks up, hopefully?

It's normally supplied with the station. I think that as yours has solar sensors, you need 'Easyweather Plus'. There's a download link on the Fine Offset site: http://www.foshk.com/Weather_Professional/WH3081.htm

Yes, that's correct the Cumulus does NOT lock up.
I have installed easyweather - but it can not see the device.
looks kike I have a broken USB port - pity - faulty straight out of the box.
I'll see how they go about replacing it.

Thanks

Hello,
I would like to apply this http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#Cumulu ... .22_screen
because my new Aercus Instruments WS3083 still locks even if the synchronise box concerning fine offset stations is checked.
My question is: Where are the "diags files" ?
Regards,
Vincent

Hello,
Thanks vaggos. I found the diag files. I added FOReadAvoidPeriod=10 in the [Station] section of cumulus.ini but my station still stopped after few days.
I increased the number to 20 but same results after 3 days.

The last time that the cumulus log file contains the lines "drift" is:
05/02/2017 07:42:10.675 : Sensor clock 07:31:46 drift = 2 seconds
05/02/2017 07:42:10.675 : Station clock 07:42:10 drift = 10 seconds
05/02/2017 07:42:15.675 : 07:42:15 Stop Synchronising
But the station stops a day after. The first time this message appeared is:
06/02/2017 07:43:17.182 : 07:43:17 Station not responding

Also, I have noticed that this last log file contains many time: (very often: more than 200 times on 05/02/2017 !!)
05/02/2017 : FTPRequestDone ftpConnectAsync Errcode = ###
05/02/2017 : *** Data input appears to have stopped
with ### is 500 or 426

Can this be linked to the problem ?

Regards,
Vincent

PS: my previous fine offset station (Velleman WS1080) never had this usb problem (with the same netbook computer) during 7 years.

The Fine Offset stations with solar sensors do seem to be much more susceptible to the 'lock up' problem, and the 'synchronise' facility in Cumulus doesn't seem to help so much.

I don't think the ftp errors are related, those are coming from your ftp server.
