Weird Temp Spikes/Dips

Post by KetteringUK »

About 2 months ago I replaced the wind vane after physical damage and then last week I replaced the rain gauge as it had failed. All seemded fine and wind and rain recordings look fine, however the temps are now getting odd little spikes in both directions. I'll clean the connections and check for any physical issues but could I have an issue with the replacement rain meter causing interference?

Hi,

Have you extended the Wind cable, or just not waterpoofed its connections properly? Otherwise it might be a radio interference problem (directly into the wind cable).

This is a "known issue" with FO stations, for the reason see, e.g., this recent thread, which even uses the same word "Weird" in its title. ;)

Cheers, Alan.

I did see the previous comments about "weird" but there are no extensions and only direct replacement parts used.
The wind vane was replaced a while ago with no issues and the rain meter replaced around the same time but not sure if directly related.
The station has been in operation for a few years without issue before this week so seems unlikely it's an outside interference.
I will change the batteries, clean everything and then replace the temp gauge too.

You have also weird dates in your trendgraphs I mean the daily rainfall en high/low temps over a longer period.

You have a problem with the date format in dayfile.txt; the usual cause is using something like Excel to edit the file, which mangles the dates.

Sorted. Not sure of the root cause as I changed the batteries cleaned and reconnected everything plus I reset the receiver.

Steve - Now I will have a look at the dayfile.txt. Thanks

I got this kind of 'problem' last summer, and some fresh batteries in the outdoor unit solved it.

Yay all fixed. I had a strange entry as 31/12/99 in between 14/07/12 and 15/07/12. Thx
