First and foremost: Im not a programmer! I can safely, so far, navigate and make basic HTML changes!

Thanks to Dave I have a webpage for my station http://hopemaine.localweatherview.net. I was wondering if anyone could guide me on how to use the webtag "<#newrecord>"???

I would just like to alert visitors to the page to check out the "records" link when a record has been broken. I have searched the forum and have found a few users who are doing this, but not how. I can't figure out how to make use or write the script(?) to make use of the "1" of the webtag if the new record light is flashing. Maybe there isn't a simple solution for this???

Any help on doing this or guidance in the right direction would be appreciated.

And you are? Anyway, glad to help, I'm surprised that the experts haven't responded, however there is stuff in here that covers this. With out checking the stuff, and giving you a post thread to check, I will add that for a begginer I will add that the experts baffle me (it's a great compliment you guys, you've been extremely helpful for me).
Anyway, here's a cheat mode for you....if you find a website that you would like to mimic, right click on it (not a picture) and select view source. This will show you the code that they use. This is no good for seeing where the <#newrecord> or other webtags go as they are replaced by Cumulus. Try it and you'll see. Don't forget to thank who the source came from.
This is what you want, in the indexT.html (opened in notepad), this is what I did (see my website to see if it's what you want):
Code:
<caption><img src="images/record_<#newrecord>.gif" title="New Record Indicator">Conditions at local time <#time>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<#currcond></caption>

You'll see the "Conditions at local time" looks familiar.
What I have saved on my site is two .gif images. One is a light that stays off and is saved as record0.gif and one which is a flashing light saved as record1.gif. What happens is Cumulus processes the normal webpages, if there is no record set then <#newrecord> is processed as a "0" thus the image put in is record0.gif (the off one), if Cumulus processes the IndexT.html page with a record it put inputs a 1 in the <#newrecord> webtag so that it calls for the picture record1.gif (the one with a flashing light). And that's it. All you need to do is get a light picture. If you can't save a flashing light .gif picture than you can (and this is what I did) make your own. Google "make a .gif" and that's what you can do. Supply two .jpg pictures, one with the light off, and one with the light on. It then put's them together and then save as a .gif. Easy. Hope I've made it simple for you.

Using this method of using webtags to change the way a website appears is a major influence in the way I've designed my website. It changes the pictures dependent of weather, day/night and predicting weather patterns and for use in providing pictures for current conditions (see my page to see what I mean).
There is a guy (on the forum) who is using the <#isday> webtag like myself, but for the weatherstyle.css so that is changes the whole appearance of the website depending whether it is day or night (weatherstyle<#isday>.css).
Have fun!

Ok, Beetlejuice has picked up on my sloppiness. So I have to point out some things:
In my code I had put <img src="images/record_<#newrecord>.gif thus the images you save will need to be record_0.gif and record_1.gif (and not record0.gif as posted).
Also the webtag for day/night is <#isdaylight> (and not <#isday>) :?
Anyway, I would (and others) would have been to your aid if you hadn't of sussed out my booboo.
For other webtags if you want to get carried away is found in the Wiki, under Cumulus "Webtags".

You could get carried away and use the actual tags for the actual record, like here: http://www.synewave.co.uk/lehamelweather/extremes.php

Hi can I just clarify what activates the Record alert and therefore the #newrecord tag? I have assumed it is only the all time records. Just want to confirm that a monthly or yearly record being broken will not activate it.

That's right; basically, they give the current state of the flashing lights and tab indicators for the all-time records.

I have mine set up like yours, Synewave, but I used a transparent gif (blank image) rather than a dull light when there is no new record. I use the same flashing light (stolen from another site - could have been Synwave's - can't remember  ) when there is a new record. I also indented all the other rows on my other pages the same amount so that all the tables look the same. My menu also has a flashing light when a new record has been set.

Nice work Bob. I like what you've done at the top of your page, nice choice of colour grouping. I liked your scrolling marque, but this is much better.
What we need is someway to grab the latest time & date from the records page and use it as the "latest record created" date on the home page. Either use Javascript or the like, or request a new webtag (which I believe has been done).
Can anyone help with that?

I get this when viewing Bob's page in Flock (Uses firefox 2.6)

Same in IE9 but it sometimes corrects itself.

Google Chrome and Firefox 4 look good.

Not work worrying about the Flock as it has passed it's Use By date, but just for FYI

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I know that in IE8, when using compatibility mode, the top frame is messed up and cut off as it is in Flock. I don't know about IE9 as I haven't installed it.

MickinMoulden-

Thanks for all the great information, that was very useful. Sorry its taken me so long to respond back.
I knew about being able to "view source", but sometimes not knowing the the webtags being used and how they work in conjunction with other things its hard for me to break it all down.

My hang us was making the image work with new record webtag. First of all, I didn't know how use webtag correctly and write the HTML script? to make use of the 1 and 0. I was failing to use the underscore correctly as well so when the 1 or 0 resulted from the tag the correct image came up.

However you set me straight and when I finalize the web page with working lights I will post on here!
Thanks to others as well for their posts!

I've been trying to add the new record lights to my site but the results are less than impressive.

This is what it looks like at the moment. http://www.cheadlehulmeweather.co.uk/record.htm

Ideally I'd like to hide the lights until a record is broken. Could some kind soul either describe how to do it or supply a couple of gifs please? I copied the code from an earlier message in this thread but I can't access any of the sites involved to see how they designed theirs.

Thanks.

Incidentally Steve, I notice your site has just the standard Cumulus pages. Do you have another one with any of these features you so kindly supply for the rest of us?
