I am sorry guys but the METAR fix in yesterday's version needed a correction. The latest version, 2013-01-31, has been released. Same update procedure as before.

I hate when something gets by me right after I release a version. Thanks for sharing the comparison. I am glad to see The Sager is working well up there in Canada.

A reminder...

If the forecast winds are constantly being forecasted too high or too low, go to the Cumulus\web folder and open bt-sager-cu.php. Read the instructions on Line 16 and if you feel an offset is needed, change Line 17 from 0 to 5 or 10 or 15. You can fine-tune the number once you find the right setting to say something like 7 or 9 or 11, etc. Give the forecaster a couple of days to see if your correction is right or not.

I have noticed a lot of you UK users have been having barometric pressure in the 970-1000 hPa range and have been getting Gale warnings. I am working on a fix for this, but understand that The Sager is reporting exactly what it should from the data used. Anyway, sit tight and give me a little time to test this fix.

If you are a UK user who has been experiencing this, send me a PM and I will send you the experimental fix version.

Something isn't right. The temperature and wind bearings are not showing. You might not have uploaded the 3 PHP files to your web server. Try uploading them again.

I have been pondering why The Sager has been forecasting gales for the UK yet users report lower wind speeds. I now think I have an answer. Your anemometer is probably wrong. I can think of several factors:
  • It is mis-calibrated.
  • It is not level.
  • It has a bearing drying up or sticking.
  • It is not installed high enough in the air.
  • Obstructions such as trees or buildings are blocking the wind.
A lot of places in the UK will be experiencing gales or gale-force winds according to Met forecasts for several locations the next couple of days so it would seem to me The Sager has been doing its job correctly all along.

Just remember this. Forecasts are not written in stone with any forecaster. Heck even the meteorologists get it wrong from time to time.

The three files have now "correctly" been added to Cumulus local server.

We can see how it acts now.

Best wishes,

The 2013-02-05 version of BT's Global Sager Weathercaster PHP Scripts For Cumulus have been released and can be downloaded at the bottom of the first post in this thread. Here are the updates:

The Sager Weathercaster uses older names for Beaufort wind speeds. I updated all of these to their modern wording.

Some other minor improvements have been made.

The barometric pressure offset on Line 17 in bt-sager-cu.php is currently the best way to adjust for wind speeds being forecasted too high consistently. I have tried several other methods to counteract that, but have found none better than the current method of pressure offset.

To update, simply open the .zip file in the first post and unzip the PHP files to Cumulus\web. Navigate to the Cumulus\web folder. Open bt-sager-cu.php and add your METAR on Line 14 and (only if needed) your barometric pressure offset on Line 17. Save your changes. If you are using PHP webpages on your website, open bt-sager-wc.php and scroll all the way down to the bottom. Add // to the front of Line 6145. Save your changes. Upload all three PHP files to your weather website host once. Wait for Cumulus to perform a web update and the forecast will start working.

ON A SIDE NOTE, I made a torrent for The Zambretti Weathercard Forecaster which you can download with a torrent client like uTorrent. Once downloaded, you can print the forecaster on good, heavy, photo paper. You can get it at:

I have been watching this for a couple of days. You UK users just have low pressure which should be making it very windy outside.
