Absolutely BT, the West country has been hit the hardest again.

Sager reporting here.....

Showers and cooler; Gale to Strong Gale (39-54 mph) Northeast or East winds becoming Northwest or North winds.

Best regards

John

Bom forecast:
Canberra area

Partly cloudy. Winds east to southeasterly and light tending northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h in the late afternoon.

BT's Sager:

Increasing cloudiness or overcast and warmer possibly followed by rain or showers; Probably increasing North or Northwest winds

So it's a little wobbly here :)

Looks like it is right on to me...

Average wind direction from 6 hours ago (w6) compared to the current average wind direction (wd) along with the wind speed unit used (wu) to determine if the wind is Backing, Steady, Veering, or Calm:
w6 = 67° NE
wd = 62° NE
wu = km/h
The wind is Steady.

15 mph winds are no biggie :)

Hi BT.
Now the pressure's on the way up it's looking a little more in sync.
I'm looking forward to actually getting a change in the weather to see how it reads.
Lately it's just been hot, hot or hot :)

I'd be happy to trade with you. We have 4.0" of snow on the ground (down from 7.0") and -20 C (~-5 F) temps. Interested?

Haha, I'd last 1/2 hour before I wanted to come home as I hate the cold.

You guys in the UK who are getting wind forecasts that are too high, browse to the Cumulus\web folder and open bt-sager-cu.php. On Line 17 for the barometric pressure offset, try 25. Save the file. Wait for Cumulus to perform a web update.

EVERYONE, please make sure you have upgraded to the latest version which is 2014-02-05. You can download it by clicking on the link below:

https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/download/file.php?id=9945

You can verify what version of my forecaster you are using by clicking on the forecast on your webpage and looking at the top of the webpage that loads.

I was able to incorporate a modified version of the forecaster into a scrolling marquee on my Aussie Native Stingless Bee website. Displays forecast and current conditions at the hive. Seems to be working a treat.

Hi BT,
Here's a question without notice for you:

Can your .php code be easily altered to remove the need for METAR?

The reason is, I have a second weather station running in a remote location without any internet available - hence no METAR.

I'm currently using your .js scripts and although they work ok, I'd like to compare with the .php scripts.

Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Graeme.

I can answer that for BT.
And the answer is no. The new scripts need the METAR for the current conditions. If it can't read a METAR then it will error.

The old script can though, but will just use the current condition as clear (IIRC).

When I made the first versions of this, I made it to where the user had to type in the current sky condition into the optional CURRENT box within Cumulus. It seemed a lot of people hated it and I had a great suggestion to add METAR to it which automates the process.

I can see why you collect metar data and that works perfectly well when I'm at home, within 40 km of a metar site. I use an automated php script to pull in and process metar data periodically and write it to currentconditions.txt for Cumulus to porcess.

My problem BT, is that my second station doesn't have any chance of an internet connection. For that matter, we don't have a telephone, either.
Secondly, if there was an internet connection, my nearest metar site is Melbourne International Airport, nearly 300 km away, so any "current" weather observations are practically useless for forecasting.

I've had acceptable results using your javascript forecaster but would really prefer to be working with php, with which I am more familiar, and that is why I made my inquiry.
However, if you say it can't be modified for operation without metar, then I'll have to be content with what I've got.
Cheers,
Graeme.
