I just wanted to report that my new WS-2355 seems to be working perfectly with Cumulus (until now just a workshop hook-up).

I also tried to include a standard 10 meter 4-wire telephone cable between the display and the USB adapter - it works.
Gives some more flexibility in where to place the display (may be even in the living room if wife permits ;) )

Next test will be to have approx 20 meters of the same type of cable between humidity/temperature sensor and display.

Best regards

OleJul

Hello.

I also use the La Crosse WS235x weather station with USB connection. I am not so lucky as Olejul with the communication. I has only used Cumulus for some few days and so far I have had at least two totally weird values for rainfall. Over 600 mm a day is not a realistic value.

The yesterday readings for rain seem to be normal and also the rain amount for the last hour. So how Cumulus manage to calculate more than 600 mm a day is a mystery for me.

Wind and temperature values seem to be normal.

Had to copy back the backup data files. That solved the problems for a while, but I am afraid that I will get more corrupt data in the future.

I have understood that the Cumulus software does not like La Crosse weather stations connected with USB. But I have not any alternative as my computer does not have serial ports.

My weather page: http://regn.brr.no/

Hopefully a future version of Cumulus will not have such problems with the combination of La Crosse, USB and Cumulus.

I think someone has tried Cumulus 2 with a La Crosse USB-connected station, and had the same problems. That's all completely new code, and has nothing in common with Cumulus 1 at all. So if that does have the same problems, then I think it's unlikely that I will ever be able to come up with something that works with this combination :(

I think Olejul is actually having problems.

Hello.

I really like the functions to Cumulus. Much more powerful than Heavyweather and WUHU which I have uses from January 2008 and to now.

But. The rain registration problem is a really show stopper for me. This line in today.ini is the problem:

The correct value today 14 November 2009 should be: Start=1029,26000976563
The wrong value which gives about 600 mm with rainfall today: Start=371,259948730469

This little thing makes big problems for me and the use of Cumulus.

If the problem is just a case of the start of day counter being wrong, then you can just edit that file with Cumulus stopped, and it should then be OK. This isn't the usual problem that the WS23xx USB combination causes.

Hello.

I have tried to edit, and it seems to work. But I get problems with the records. Has to edit highest rainfall values too.

Yes, most of the rainfall data for today will need correcting. The question is, why is the rainfall counter much higher than Cumulus thought it was? If you look in the November log file, there is a record of the rain counter which Cumulus reads from the station and uses to calculate the rain amounts. Did it go up by 600 and stay there, or did it go back down again?

Hello.

I have given up the USB connection and managed to connect my weather station with serial connection. Now I do not have the problems anyone. So it was the "USB ghost" which visited me and my weather station.

It will become a problem next time I buy a new computer. Nearly none computers today has inbuilt serial ports. Hopefully it will be possible to buy a PCI-E card with serial ports.

Thanks for the tips and thanks for a great program!

Thanks for that; pleased to hear it's working OK now.
