Can confirm the behavior with my 2316..

But I also have the Heavy Weather software installed and it doesn't have any such fluctuations.. are you sure it's not a misread of the serial output somewhere?

Also Cumulus doesn't seem to be reading my daily rainfall total..

Thanks!

Also trying Weather Display and no wild readings.. Thanks! Would love to use Cumulus, it's a little..... easier to read... than Weather Display :-)

Well, yes, the evidence would seem to point to Cumulus doing something wrong. But I'm following the documentation on the Open2300 site, and I don't know what else I can do. The author of Heavy Weather will have had access to the protocol spec (and probably the author of WD too), so it's a little easier for them. It would be easier if I actually had one of the stations to experiment with.

If anyone feels like installing a serial sniffer (there are some free ones out there) and comparing the trace from Heavy Weather and Cumulus, that might prove useful.

Steve

Hi Steve

Yes, i'll have a go at logging some comparisons for you once todays festivities are out of the way, do you have a preferred serial sniffer you would like me to use?

Regards - John.

Thanks, John, that would be great. I don't mind what you use as long as I can understand the output :)

I've used one called 'HHD free serial port monitor' myself, it has various 'views', I found one of the 'views' to be particularly good, but I can't remember which one.

Steve

(Just popped in for a quick look, couldn't resist)

Hi Steve

I've created log files for three applications:

Heavy Weather 2.0 beta (comes with the unit from manufacturers)
Weather display V8.27APRS lite (a free version of a commercial package)
Cumulus 1.8.4 build 603

I've used a package called PortMon, although HDD free serial port monitor is very good, the free version doesn't allow the saving of log files.

The logs are in .txt format.

Each log run was for about 15 minutes, capturing the startup, running and shutdown of each application in turn. All logs were taken within about one hour.

I hope this is of some help to you , if you need any other tests or further logs collecting please let me know. Contact directly by Email would be best at the address I registered with this site.

I'll also check in here from time to time.

<EDIT> - archive was too large to upload - was going to upload in three individual archived files but they're still too big - largest is about 550 KB - do you have an address I can send them to??

Regards - John.

Following a full reset of my WS2300 - (remove the batteries and external power source and leave the unit for at least 5 minutes) I have been running Cumulus beta1.8.5 for about 10 days, and have just upgraded to beta1.8.5 636.

I have found non of the problems of strange readings from the WS2300 I had found with version 1.8.4, i've repeatedly restarted Cumulus to see if I could get it to produce any of the symptoms I experienced with V1.8.4 at startup. I'm pleased to say that Cumulus is performing perfectly.

Thanks Steve, your Cumulus software is spot on. I particularly like the ease with which i've been able to set up a web page from the files you supply.

Many thanks

John.

Thanks very much for the feedback, John, I was wondering if my 'tweaks' had helped; I have to admit that I wasn't at all confident that they would have any effect - let's hope this isn't just a coincidence!

Steve
