No pressure readings

Post by hungry »

Hi, hope someone can be of help. I have been trying the software with my old trusty, lie telling, ws2300 and on the whole all is well. The only issue I have is that I can not get it to read the pressure readings. I have tried using heavy weather as a test and all is working as should be, but absolutely nothing in Cumulus. I take this to mean that there are no issues with the serial cable so it is either a setting problem or a software problem. Any pointers anyone, apart from buy a decent one. As a foot note I have tried it also on wired and wireless too.

It's possible that Cumulus thinks your pressure reading is bad and is ignoring it. If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll see if I can see anything.

Your station is reading 4751.2 mb for sea-level pressure.

26/05/2011 15:04:20.062 : Ignoring rel pressure: 4751.2

This reading is consistent, so it's not a case of a corrupted reading. I think you probably have your sea-level (relative) pressure incorrectly set on your station.

Ok thanks for your reply. I am not sure whats really going on as the ws2300 display reads abs 999.6 hPa, rel 1753.0 hPa. I know thats a little bit out but nowhere as bad as 4751.2

1753 is still impossibly high, by several hundred hPa, and would still get ignored by Cumulus. My guess would be that the station can't display an impossible pressure with a 'thousands' figure higher than 1, so it loses the extra 3000. But anyway, you need to set the pressure to the correct figure for it to be of any use.

I thought that as soon as I sent the last post. I have never set the pressure before on the display and as soon as I pressed the submit button I realised that things were well out. I have knocked it down to 1005 for now to see if I can get some sort of reading, so far not, but I will carry on playing about. Thanks for your help, Jon

Perhaps that's actually 4005? Note that you'll need to restart Cumulus to get it to start accepting the corrected pressure. If you still don't get a reading in Cumulus, you can check in the cumulus.009 diags file to see what value it's getting.

Well I was not going to bother you again but I have attached the latest file. The ws2300 display reads abs 1001.1, rel 1004.1.

You've got a pressure offset (difference between relative and absolute) of 1004:

26/05/2011 17:23:11.718 : WS2300: Pressure offset = 1004.0

so your relative pressure now reads approx 2004:

26/05/2011 17:23:13.671 : Ignoring rel pressure: 2004

Still another 1000 to take off!

Yes I know, but the ws2300 display wont go below rel 1000 as it then goes back to 1999 so all I have is another 4 or 5 left to knock off!. Time for tea I think, it is driving me mad now.

Well, yes, as I suggested, it can only display a '1' for the first digit, so when you go from 1000 to 1999, you're actually going from 2000 to 1999, so you need to keep going.

At last all sorted. Don’t ask me how, but after I checked the system after my tea the pressure had started to work and be displayed in Cumulus, so then I was able to alter the offset. Thanks for all your help Steve, most appreciated.
