I hope it retains some of the design style of the current Cumulus 2 when completed which is very very smart, but however it turns out it will be worth waiting for, good luck!

I'm just splitting the code in two (or three, actually), so the front end will look pretty much like the current alpha.

Steve, my advice is to just do what makes you happy, and excited to program it.

You're doing this for fun, not for a living. Don't let it become a chore, trying to meet the requirements and preferences of others. Just do whatever you want to do.

Cheers, and all the best for the new year.

At the moment, a chore is exactly what it feels like. I'm a sensitive type ;) , and when I get all of the criticism that I've been getting recently about how Cumulus should work and how crap the documentation is, and I just don't have time to sort everything out, I really feel like packing it all in and doing something sensible with my life.

And the same to you!

Steve, if people think the documentation is crap then let them write or improve it. Whatever the state of the documentation (not sure I have even looked at it personally!), the forum is a HUGE source of information, and includes other people that can help which takes the burden from you. Trust me, no matter how much work or how good the documentation is, you will still get complaints (and I have written a hugely detailed manual in the past, so talk from experience!).

Regarding how Cumulus should work - everyone is a critic, and everyone always knows better. As the guy above said, do what you want, if others find it beneficial then great, if not, then they can do their own software :ugeek:

Here Here :) I couldnt agree more. I have never had any trouble understanding the Documentation provided (Which is very indepth and is written in CLEAR, UNDERSTANDABLE ENGLISH) and I feel you have Developed two great pieces of Software which I use with Pride.

I hope none of my little requests for Cumulus have caused any undue stress or pressure on you. If it has, I am sorry.

A donation will be winding its way to you in 2010 :) If there is anything I or any one else on here can do to help, we'll all be more than happy to do so :)

Have a great new year Steve

I have read the documentation, in both english and french languages ... not that I could not understand what I had read in english but more to compare the two documents... ;)

Well, the (english) documentation you have written for Cumulus is one of the best document I have read in a long time ... and that is a great compliment as I usually read all/every documentation before using a software or a new device. 8-)

The people complaining are most likely the same people who are expecting that everything be done for them - the 'silver spoon into their mouth' type of people.

As I expressed before, with the European and north american releases of those low-priced low-quality low-reliability (made in China) weather stations, every person can now become an instant weather station operator and and an instant knowledgeable weather forecaster - is there not an 'instant knowledge' pill supplied with those stations!

Steve, I ask you, no, I beg you, to ignore those complainers - if they are not happy with Cumulus, (the software, the documentation, the USB connection, etc.) then they can look/search somewhere else to find such a 'so well' supported software...

These forums are not for a CumulusNanny type of software... :x

Might be time to start a new 'by invitation only private membership' parallel Cumulus forum where only people with some intermediate computer knowledge (more than just switching a computer on/off), some basic programming knowledge (with a very basic knowledge of HTML), some basic server knowledge (with a basic understanding of FTP upload), and some basic weather station operating knowledge (with basic station knowledge after reading the documentation) would be accepted as members and where full Cumulus support would be provided by all members to all members...

Steve, as mentioned previously, just ignore those ungrateful (selfish) people! Design Cumulus2 the way YOU would like it to be, the way YOU would like it to display ... and for YOUR own Vantage Pro2 weather station...

Then it would be to those people to design an interface for their own weather station software...

Hi Steve
I really like C1 and am very interested in what you have done so far in C2 "beta" (I think some forget it is still being designed). Ignore the detractors, maybe take a break from Cumulus 2 to give yourself some time to refresh things and then look at how you want it to be. Cumulus 1 is more than adequate in the meantime and still way better than anything else out there. Once you have C2 the way you want it people can then choose whether they like the way C1 or C2 works and use the one they like better.

Cheers Tony

As I peruse the internet as I do A LOT. And if you go to any weather site you will almost always get a reference to one of the best personal weather station softwear on the net, CUMULUS. These references are from all over the world. And until this particular thread I have not read a negative post about this software. I beleive this program started when? 2004? Quite a track record. BTW I love the look of Cumulus 2 I cant wait till the final version!

Steve...I like Cumulus 1. I think it appeals to the majority of users. Maybe just making the appearance more programmable is all you need. You basically have 10 boxes of information defined including the gauges. How about letting user choose which information is displayed at the box level plus let user move them around. Each box could also have programmable text and background colors. If you have a "My Yahoo" page you will know what I mean.

I have had my station for 7 years and I dealt with some glitchy software and unappealing interfaces. I was starting to lose interest as a weather enthusiast until Cumulus came along. You have already done a great job and it's hard to improve on great.....George

I actually like Cumulus 2 a lot, granted its still in development thus has limited features yet, but the interface is very smart and modern, and potentially very useful with tabs to various gauges/screens. I hope it is still going to be developed for release whenever Steve has time to work on it!
