Thanks - and I now think I understand why some people are seeing weird figures for 'today's rain' after importing. I'm pretty sure it's because of the way that the import works out the 'rain counter' figure, where it has to cope with the various formats of data file, where earlier versions didn't log the rain counter directly. So it keeps its own idea of what the rain counter should be, based on what it started off at and how much has been recorded in the rain total field in the logs.

When it gets to the end, if you're lucky and have never had any problems with the rain counter in the station doing odd things, the calculated and actual values are the same. If they're not, you suddenly get an amount of +ve or -ve rain recorded as the two values come into sync. I don't think there's anything I can do about this, and it should hopefully just require a quick manual edit of the database to fix it.

If you change the data with the editor does it auto save the changes or do you have to save it manualy?

I you have to save it manualy how do you do it?

Save it as csv but with a different name and then close c2 down and rename?

Which file does the editor edit or is it the data dase file that you are editing?

confused

It's the C2 database that you need to edit, which you can do from within Cumulus 2. Double click on a value to start editing, then click on a different row to save the changes. I'm guessing that there will just be one or two of the rain values in one row ("Rain", and possibly also "rain last hour" and "rain rate") which need fixing.

One important point that I forgot, which may not be obvious. The data in the table is in 'fixed' units, rather than the units you may have chosen for display:

Timestamp: UTC
Rain: mm
Wind: m/s
Temp: C
Pressure: mb

Actually, the next build is further delayed because I've decided to ditch the Telerik data grid and switch to the Microsoft one from the WPF Toolkit. It seems to be much faster and less of a memory hog. Next release will be Friday at the earliest as I'm going shopping tomorrow, and that's an all day job on the boat :(

I still havent found this elusive .ini file to import my data. I think I have been mugged and its been stolen. I have spent a week looking and I,m not joking.

Steve/anyone- can you suggest where it may be ?

PS can you remove that flashing banner ontop of the forum, it makes by whole screen flash and wobble :)

You should report it to the police! ;)

It should be in the folder where you installed Cumulus 1, e.g. C:\Program Files\Cumulus - assuming you're running XP.

Really? It shouldn't flash, it just scrolls across from the left and then stops for a second or two, then the next 'news' item appears and starts scrolling. Explained very well, not at all :)

Its not the banner that flashes, but if you have scrolled down the page and banner isnt visible the whole forum pages nudges up an inch every now and again. It doesnt do it on anything else so I am assuming its the scrolling banner ? or its just me.

With regards to ini, I cant import keep get this message and programme terminates ( downloaded the new version today and uninstalled the old version)

It doesn't do that for me. I'll ask David about it.

How are you doing the import? At start up, in response to the program asking if you want to import (because you have an empty database) or, from the File menu? I think there are probably issues with the File menu method, because the program is up and running, and will interfere with the import (like the error you are seeing) so I will probably remove that option. If you want to do an import, you should really only do it at start up, and to get it to ask you, you need to copy the blank database into the the appropriate place (see the first line of the trace.txt file on your desktop).

Understood re last.
With regards to the ini file. I have a txt file will all my data going back to 2007 but not an ini file ( as far as I can tell )

will attach something below shortly. So when it ries to import an ini file there isnt anything there to import and you cant change it to import anything else ie a txt file

I think the problem is that you have the default Windows setting where it doesn't show file extensions, so you will never see an ini file, it will be shown as 'configuration settings'. So if you look in the Cumulus installation folder, you should see a file which Windows explorer will just call 'cumulus' with a file type of 'configuration settings'.

I'd strongly recommend that you turn off the option to hide file extensions:

- select Start | Settings | Control Panels | Folder Options
- select the View tab
- check "show hidden files and folders"
- UNcheck "hide file extensions for known file types"
- Click OK to finish

This is really frustrating, sorry for keep asking but I just dont see the file. Is anyone else having problems ?

Cumulus1 is found in c/programme files/cumulus

I am then looking in the folder marked "data" - nothing obvious apart from the txt file.

It's right there in your screen shot - top right, just under the webfiles folder.
