I have used Cumulus 1 for a long time and have my own website presenting it's data.

Decided to give Cumulus 2 a trial with a second Fine Offset Weather Station console just purchased.
Had initial trouble getting Control working but solved problem after reading other comments in this forum.

However I am unable to start the Viewer - the attached screen shot shows the error message generated.

Can anybody help?

Did the service start OK and connect to the station? The servertrace.txt log would tell you.

Hi Steve,

Servertrace.txt log displays this info

Quote:
01/09/2010 20:35:33 ========================== Cumulus service starting ==========================
Cumulus service v.1.0.0.0
config file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sandaysoft\Cumulus Control\CumulusService.exe.Config
Settings read from: C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Sandaysoft\CumulusService.exe_Url_41d0tywioxqokhqs4upqubwqc5ufwg05\1.0.0.0\user.config
Data path = C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Cumulus\
Station type: FineOffset
20:35:33 Cumulus Starting
Opening station
Database file does not exist. Please check, and restart the Cumulus service

Is this correct?

Seems to show a Database file error even though I have imported the old C1 data!

Any ideas?

This is wrong - these paths should be under your under your user profile, which is where the database file is installed. It looks like somehow the service isn't running under your user. If you look at it in the Windows Services Console, what user does it say it's running under? It should match the user you gave it when you installed it.

W7 using USB port.
I seem to be having the same problem. I think it relates to a User Name without a password. I can go to the services.msc but I can only get it to start using The Local system account tic. If I choose my user name which does not have a password, the log on expects one.

I tried installing without a user name but that didn't seem to work as well.

It definitely won't work with a user without a password. Windows (sensibly) imposes restrictions on users without passwords. I thought I had made this clear, but possibly it was only discussed in the forum. Neither will it work with any of the built-in system accounts.

I try to do all my reading before I get started. Your instructions very clearly say you need the user name and password but a lot of us haven't used a password or even a user name for most of our computing lives going back to Atari. So, it is assumed that you only need a password if you use a password at computer start-up. That of course is our failing, not yours.

For those of us who are stubborn, you might need to :bash: it into us with a stronger warning in the instructions. :)

I learned something new so it was well worth trying C2.

I wasn't really aware of the restrictions placed on unpassworded accounts until now, I'd have probably looked for another alternative If I'd known - and I probably will look at changing it to run under the LocalService user, and giving it permissions to the user file store.

I always have passwords because I have a small home network, and it doesn't work properly otherwise. I've configured auto-login at startup, so I hardly ever notice that I have a password - I think this is a reasonable compromise.

I uninstalled C2 then I made another user account on my PC with a password reinstalled it and now it is working fine, it looks very good. Sorry Steve I did not see the bit about that you need to have a password as well.

I don't think I've added it to the instructions - I probably should!
