I take it the calibration feature will be incorporated in due course which you really seem to need on the FineOffset units.

Yes - sooner or later Cumulus 2 will do everything that Cumulus 1 does.

Well couldn't resist it and downloaded C2 to see what all the fuss is about :)

installed it on my Asus 900A netbook having updated the .NET to 3.5 sp1 as suggested, and was very impressed, it has a nice Visa type feel. Love the gauges, not sure if it was down to the power of the netbook, but when first launched the temperature bars etc built up (reminded me of star trek :) ) until they reached the current values, and love the way the wind direction gauge swings round.

comments:

1 - when started the bar at the top with the normal minimze, maximise and close buttons are off the desktop. Resizing the window brings it down just enough to drag the window down. This happens on each time C2 is launched. And each time any of the other windows withing C2 are opened

2 - when browsing the graphs the application stopped responding, and had to end task to exit - This happened irrespective of which graph was selected. The normal "send error report" stated:

Quote:
szAppName: Cumulus.exe szAppVer : 2.0.3603.37282 szModName : hungapp szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset 00000000

This was using the zip file from the link in the 1st post

3 - with the black background and white text, hovering over the FILE button the white text turns to black and can't easily be read

4 - daily rainfall showed up as 11.4mm - even though C1 shows zero rainfall which is correct.

5 - disconnecting the station from the usb port with C2 opened caused the application to crash the kernel32.dll

Other than that... looks good,

Wish list:

If the weather station is connected after the application is launched data doesn't appear to be downloaded once the station is connected to the USB port. It would be nice to have an option where you can force the software to re-locate the station and download the data.

Keep up the good work

Some one said that about Cumulus Realtime (which is effectively the same thing). I was quite hurt ;)

It's the non-standard screen size of your netbook. I've done the best I can. I might come up with a way to improve it later.

It can hang up if you don't have any data, but if you had data, I've no idea what the cause was.

Works fine for me - the background goes to a gradient, and the text stays white. Something to do with your graphics card or driver, possibly. Do you get any other graphics funnies?

Rainfall can be funny the first time you run it. Did you import your old data?

That's good; Cumulus 1 doesn't cope with the station being disconnected either; we like backwards compatibility ;). But seriously: I'm in the middle of a complete restructure of Cumulus 2, so the next release will probably fail in all kinds of different ways. If i get a minute I'll see if I can reproduce that.

Yes, Cumulus 1 is the same. I tried to make it work (in C1), but it caused problems so I gave up. As C2 is completely different, I'll have a go at making it work with that at some point; and also maybe cope sensibly with the station being disconnected and reconnected in mid-operation.

I was trying to be complimentary... in fact yours are better than the ones in Startrek :)

The screen would of actually fitted as it was high off the bottom, hard to describe, but the gap between the bottom of the window and the task bar is about the same as the menu bar - it was as if the origin of the window was off screen. It was easy enough to get it to fit, just move the cursor over the RH edge until it changed to the arrows and click - the window re-sized juts enough to grab the menu bar and drag it down. The resolution of the screen is 1024 x 600 which is standard for netbooks

Yes I had the station connected and it had downloaded date

Agreed, the button does indeed have a gradient, but on my PC the text is black on a black to gray gradient making it practically unreadable - The graphics chipset is basic, but it I've not noticed any issues like this before.

No date was imported, this was a fresh install on the netbook and a first time connection to the station (C1 is running on my main PC)

Some error trapping possibly ? - notice that if you launch C2 without the station connected it launches a pop up stating no station found - maybe any error trap could do the same rather than crash the application

No doubt these things seem easy to us non-programmers, but in reality requires a lot of work... hopefully the support and suggestions you get from the forum members will keep you motivation going ;)

Programming can be strange - something which might seem straightforward can be anything but and a real headache but also, there are sometimes things that sound complicated or difficult, that are quite easy.
