Hi Steve
Would it be possible to remove the indicator (eg direction needle or 'mercury') if no data is received on a channel
Regards
Alan

I'm not sure what you mean - permanently or temporarily? There isn't really a concept of a 'channel' with Fine Offset stations, the data is just written to an area of memory. There are some 'default' values which seem to indicate that a sensor isn't transmitting, is that what you mean? Eventually I could put in checks for those and do something with them.

Hi Steve
Sorry I used the term loosely - I meant when that bit of data has a nul return - I think the direction needle (for example) defaults to north - I thought maybe not showing it at all would indicate the lost data. It might give a clue that the transmitter needs attention.

Alan

Yes - Cumulus 1 doesn't handle 'missing' data in an ideal way - it just continues to use the last valid data that it read, or zero (or whatever) if it hasn't had any valid data. I intend to improve this in C2 - displaying 'dashes' etc for missing data. Some sort of indicator on the gauges would also be useful, but I'm not sure about just making the gauge disappear.

Steve and Alan.

How about modifying the colours of the arrows a bit...

Looking at the gauge produced by Cumulus 1 (for the Web pages), for example, the read arrow is used to indicate the 'current wind direction' and the blue arrow is used to indicate the '10 minutes wind average'.

So why not give a colour other than red to the 'current wind direction' (such as green) and activate (or switch on) the red arrow only when there is an error or a problem with the wind information (such as a lost of data, as suggested by Alan)...

Also, if possible, both the 'current wind direction' and the '10 minutes wind average' arrows could be switched off when the winds are calm and/or have been calm for more than 10 minutes...

Another beteljuice experiment :

Dashboard#2
Current windspeed / direction = yellow
10 min average speed / direction = green
10 min gust speed = orange
Max. gust = red

If there were no wind for 24hrs there would a red "0" marker - and thats it

beteljuice, what you have done is nice work ... except those graphic displays/gauges and that page are not me... ;)

Odd thing thought... My Firefox allowed me to access your pages once ... and then AVG Internet Security suite warned me of some treat ... and then, I could not access your pages again with Firefox... :?

What are you sending my way that would be perceived as a possible treat?

The graphics are just some of many experiments using only realtime.txt, JavaScript and DHTML

Nothing ! - my pages and my server host are 'clean'. I also use AVG and have never received warnings about any of my sites ?

Looks good beteljuice -- background is centered but graphics are not, but that's minor

"Clean" to me too in FF :D

Hi

Rather ironically a couple of days after I posted the original idea my 8681 stopped tranmitting - as it happens I download data from it on a regular basis as I don't always run the computer so I did notice a series of nuls (I hardly ever look at the base screen) . If I ran the computer constantly maybe I would not noticed have for some time.
Regards
Alan
