Unable to start Cumulus 2 Service

Hi Steve,

I installed .NET4 before running the C2 setup. That part went fine and I then successfully imported the C1 data.

I tried to start the service but got this error message.

Any clues? My user name has a space in it. Could that be the reason? I'm attaching the ControlTrace and Import log files created on the Desktop. Hope they help.

Going to bed now and I'll be out tomorrow evening. back on Saturday morning.

Another observation: after import, there's a message saying 100% complete - but the progress bar remains at 96%.

Do all three of you have spaces in your user names? I did wonder if this was going to be a problem, despite the fact that I have followed the instructions to cater for it - I haven't been able to test it myself; I suppose I should have created a test user.

Steve,

I'm posting from work so can't try anything on my Cumulus PC. I also noted that the progress bar didn't show 100% after the C1 data was imported. I think mine showed 88%.

My user name on the PC is 'Ray Proudfoot'. Does anyone know if you can edit your user name to remove the space? The alternative is to create a new one without but that may not be suitable for other users.

Thanks - so the space is red herring. What would be good now would be for someone to let us know that they have managed to get it working OK

I tested this on three different machines with three different versions of Windows

Your users do have administrator privilege, I assume?

It is the only user, has admin. privilige.
No password. Could that be a clue?

uninstalled both and reinstalled which seems to have worked ok.
started the import which stopped at 95%

logs attached dont no it these help

Possibly, but it should still work, I think. We need some more feedback... is it failing for everyone?

The best thing to do is actually to look at the logs, often it will be clear what the problem is:

Warning: date field has unexpected length : ' 02/03/10'
Data error: 02/03/10,08:13,-4.7,88,-6.4,0.0,0.8,135,0.00,0.00,1022.1,27.73,18.5,47,0.8,-4.7,-4.7

You have a number of errors like this in the import log - indicating problems with your Cumulus 1 data files (looks like a string of 'NUL' characters - the forum software isn't showing them).

Apart from that it seems to be looking good - but you haven't actually tried to connect to the station yet?

The uninstall/install to get it working is interesting - perhaps others could try that...

Admin privileges but no password is required. Might the Events Log show what the problem is?

Tried that. Still same error.
Am wondering about the last part of the error message: computer quote period quote period :?:

It's just shorthand for "this computer".

When you type in your username and password, you could try putting your user in as <computer name>\<user name>, but I doubt that will make any difference. Also, you could try starting the service from the Windows services console.

wouldn't know how to do that.... Plse explain...

Also tried turning off firewall & antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) - no difference.
