Ah well, maybe that's progress. Maybe it is because you have no password. I'll create a user with no password and see what happens.

Yes: no password was the problem preventing the server from starting: added a password to my user-id, re-installed, and the server started OK.
But viewer failed, msg and log below.

Yes, I'd just determined the same. Now I have to find out whether this is a restriction/bug in Windows or just something I need to change in the installer.

Yes:

Station type: Undefined

Have you configured the station type and restarted the service, as in the instructions?

It's a default security policy. Accounts without passwords are limited in what they are allowed to do. This means that users who don't have a password will have to either set a password or change the policy. The policy is called "Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only". I can give instructions to anyone who doesn't know how to change it.

While I don't think it's a very good idea to have administrator accounts without a password, I'm not sure that Cumulus should be dictating to people how they run their own security. I think this means that the idea of having Cumulus 2 run as a service is dead.

Or perhaps the service should run under the 'local service' account and not the user account; I just thought it kept things neater that way. I'd have to look at where the data would be stored if I changed it.

Rats. This is a 'problem' with a Telerik component that they gave me a solution for, but I guess the solution is incomplete (probably my fault). I'm guessing that your PC doesn't have any serial ports?

All of my PCs have serial ports, so I didn't hit this in testing... I think it's easy enough to fix.

Here's a new Control/Service setup which hopefully fixes the crash on systems without any serial ports. You'll need to uninstall the previous version first.

Edit: Note that I have now updated the original download to include this version.

Good news: Cumulus2 up and running :D (with a user password)

Viewer: graphs take a VERY long time.
(and 'daily rain' crashes, but that may be because of incorrect data from Cumulus1)

Excellent.

Oh dear. How long? How many entries in your database? You can view it from the editor in the Control app, but I suspect that will take a long time to open too. It takes a little while for me, but the graphs are pretty quick. What's the spec of your PC?

Possibly some very large or negative values somewhere.

20-40 seconds, depending on type of graph

I have data since Sept.2008, and database is about 42MB.
PC is dual-Atom (4 threads) with 2GB.

On the machine where I run Cumulus "for real", I've imported all of my data to get a 108MB database. It's a 3.4 Ghz Pentium 4 with 2GB RAM. Each graph opens in 3 or 4 seconds. On my development machine which is vastly more powerful and only has a 2MB database it (perhaps surprisingly) takes about the same time.

I wonder if the errors in your data are causing the graphs some problems... if you email me your database to steve@sandaysoft.com I'll see how it performs here.
