Does anyone else have YawCam FTP problems?

I don't know if this is YAWCam related, or my website provider.

I don't have any problems with the Cumulus uploads, but have numerous and multiple FTP errors in the YAWCam console....here's a small selection that has appeared today

I've tried all sorts of settings in YAWCam but the result is very much the same.
My Upload interval is set to one minute.

I too have experienced many Yawcam to Weather Underground ftp problems but it appears to me that it is primarilly caused at WU end. Now that I have set my computer to stop Yawcam once a day and restart 1 minute later it has been quite stable and also this avoids the long stoppage of image uploads that occured before.

A Yawcam restart usually has reconnected and successfully restarts the uploads.

My error messages do not have the additional explanation text as yours shows so likely you are on a newer version of Yawcam.

I would love to swap to another free program that can put the text on the images that YAWCAM does

I let WeatherUnderground get my pic from my website rather than FTPing to it.....it's the upload to my website that seems troublesome.

I also use WebcamXP to upload my second webcam, but that doesn't seem to have any trouble.

I restarted YAWCam last night at 11:30pm, and not had one single FTP error overnight....so am not sure what is going on.

YAWCam is an excellent piece of software, but I do wish it supported more than one camera.....I've looked into running multiple instances of it, but when I tried it, there seemed to be clashes in the installations.

I am reluctant to fork out £80 on something like Webcam XP for a hobby, when it does less than YAWCam does, albeit just for one camera.

I think I need a second PC really to serve my webcams

I have the same problems related to FTP. Wish someone could offer an idea of what it was about. In the meantime I'm looking for alternative software. I'll post back if I find anything worthwhile...

I have thinking of testing it my self but some other stuff came between.

I have use WebcamXP over a week an haven't have a single ftp error, but I'll think Yawcam is a better program when the ftp work as i should.
Lets hope they can fix the issue that is with the program.

Thanks for the heads-up on that...didn't think about checking the Yawcam forum as the site has been so up and down recently....I've downloaded the beta, and will let you know how it goes

I've downloaded YawCam beta and it seems to be working for me thus far. I have had a couple of FTP errors but this new version automatically recovers silently and then carries on. It has consistently worked for two days now without a problem whereas the old version would die after a few hours and then hang. So, fingers crossed but it looks as if the beta is the way to go...

The good news is that it has been peerless for four days now. It looks as if the beta has indeed fixed the issues I had.

I’ve had similar problems with Yawcam myself. I also tried Webcam 7 but my weather PC is a small low-power fanless PC and Webcam 7 used a lot of CPU all of the time which made my PC get a bit too warm for comfort.

I did some searching on the Internet and found a command line program called ‘RobotEyez’ which will capture a frame from a webcam. The output of RobotEyez is a bmp so I use another program called ‘bmp2jpg’ which converts a bmp to a jpg file. And lastly I’m using Windows’ built-in command line FTP client along with a script parameter to upload to Wunderground. All of this is tied together with a batch file and Windows Task Scheduler runs it every few minutes.

My webcam occasionally flakes out (I think it’s getting too hot when the morning sun is on it) and required me to unplug it then plug it back in to get it working. I solved that with another command line utility called ‘devcon’ to reset the webcam if that happens. (It works as if you went into Device Manager, disconnected the device, then reconnected the device.)

If this sounds like a lot of work, it was. But now my webcam is running smoothly for the first time.
