An odd situation where my transmitter sent some rogue data which was stopped by the spike removal. However, I notice that I have a new rain rate record 115 mm which happened at 5:51 today. Cumulus shows the last recorded rain as 5:49 . The odd thing is that whilst Cumulus accepted the rain rate and also records a highest hourly rate of 9.6mm at 6:45 it quite rightly hasn't recorded any rain today? I am using v1033.

You can see the data by visiting my website as I haven't amended the errors as yet. I have attached a diags for the period in question, which as you'll note is quite a mess - I think my kit is somewhat unstable :(

I'm not sure what you think the problem is? The rain counter changed (presumably erroneously) such that the calculated rain rate was 115 mm/hr, and the rain in the last hour was 9.6 mm. You have spike removal settings of 150 and 40 respectively, so those values were accepted.

Eventually, your rain counter returned to its original value, which is the same as the start of day value, so your rain total for today is zero.

The rain rate/last hour/today calculations are completely independent; that's why there are spike removal values for rate and last hour. For 'today' it just copes the best it can when weird things happen.

Thanks Steve, explanation understood. I wasn't sure if it was an error, hence my use of "Possible", I didn't appreciate how the logic worked and that the various rain results are independent. I did wonder about reporting it and as it happens I hope it didn't take too much of your time.

At least it was a reasonable question, Neil, and you gave me everything I needed to be able to answer it. You could have just posted "My rainfall's gone crazy, help!" which is what often happens
