Hi Steve,

I really like the NOAA Monthly and Annual Reports but I am not sure what the "Dep from Norm" values represent on the Annual Report (or how they are calculated). All my rain and temp 'Dep from Norm' values are 0.0. I'm assuming its the difference between an average or normal value for those measurements. Will my values change as more data is collected at my site or should the average values for my area be input somewhere or am I totally misguided and its only US specific.

Thanks

They're all 'hard-coded' zero in the current code; I haven't decided what to do about them. It seems pointless comparing them to the average calculated from the Cumulus data, as I doubt that anyone has enough data in Cumulus to calculate a reasonable norm, and they would change too rapidly as new data is collected. I'm thinking that a way of specifying figures from some external source may be the best way to go.

Steve

I really like the NOAA reports - I will find them very useful when I write my weather report for the local free magazine (and yet another reason for not running Weatherlink)!

One possible source for some comparisons would be the Met Office 30 year averages. The ones I use in my reports are at http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/averages/19712000/sites/bude.html. The 30 year averages don't have the range that the NOAA reports do but they make for some interesting comparisons.
However I'm not sure about the use of the word 'norm' in this context and obviously every user would have to be able to enter their own 'Met Office' figures into Cumulus.

Thanks

Graham

I agree. The best option would be for each user to enter their own values. I have used the WMO site in the past. http://worldweather.wmo.int/

Steve,

In Weatherlink the user enters values for temperature and precipitation for each month and has the option of using default degree and cooling days or entering values. It is located in Reports NOAA setup.

Thanks; I've been meaning to look at Weatherlink to see what it does for the 'norms'. I think I'll do the same in Cumulus.
