I have noticed two things in the latest updates.

When upgrading to version 1.4.4 and the font folder was removed, the page on my computer looks alright, but when I look at it in my smartphone the LCD-font is replaced in the gauges and in the forecast. Why??
Mats, it must be that the browser on your phone cannot use the font embedded in the CSS. Could you try your phone on my gauges page and see if that works?

Hello, Mark.

Thanks for your quick reply. Your page is looking super in my phone with LCD-fonts and all.

Thanks, that means I can reinstate the font folder, but also keep the font embedded in the CSS. That will speed it up for the vast majority of browsers but still work with those browsers that don't support the woff font format.

I think another release is called for soon.

Mark, if I try Mats gauges page with the Firefox 'NoScript' plugin active, I do not get redirected to any other page - the gauges page just 'sits' there with no gauge displayed...

I'm guessing that a 'NoScript' plugin disables script Ray? :lol: so how is a redirect script going to work? You will have to add a no script block to the html. But the standard Cumulus gauge page needs scripts as well! To be honest if people don't want scripting then that is their look out, they will have a very poor web 'experience', and they are welcome to it. :twisted:

or does the plugin do something else?

Version 1.4.3 posted, if you already have 1.4.2 then the only file updated is gauges.js...

    1.4.3
  • Updated gauges.js
    - Reduced the default range for the barometer from 960-1040 to 990-1030hPa (29.0-30.5 to 29.2-30.4inHg).
    This should look better on those sites that have very little pressure variation.

Amusingly, the pressure over a lot of the UK is up around 1030 right now so all those re-ranged gauges are bashing against the stop :)

Was this changed in 1.5 to re-scale the gauges?

Because my Pressure is 1031 at the moment, and my gauges have re-scaled up to 1040.

When mine hit 1030.1 it did the same. Nice.

Indeed Mark. But when the plugin is active and refuses a JavaScript such as 'gauges.js' should the 'standard' gauges page (the one specified in the 'gauges.js' script) not be displayed instead? Or will the 'standard' gauges page only be displayed when a browser does not support HTML5?

Hi Ray. As it stands, it will only redirect if there is a lack of HTML5 Canvas support. To do what you want would require adding something like:
Code:
    <noscript>
        <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="5; url=/warning.html"/>
    </noscript>
to header block of the page. I don't know which page to redirect to in this event other than warning page telling them politely to enable scripting if they want to enjoy your page. The functionality of the standard gauges page requires scripting to be enabled too.

The gauges have always autoscaled, v1.5 just brought the 'default' range down as people towards the tropics don't get the same sort of range as us up in the temporate zone. The min/max should scale to to the nearest 10 hPa below/above your all time pressure records. So if you are a relatively new user expect to see the scale expand fairly regularly as you hit new personal records. For people with records going back a year or two or more, scale expansion will be a rare event.

Thanks,

I didn't know that.

So with the expected pressure going up to 1040 by the end of the week, my gauges should Autoscale again I presume.

That's for the info.

Hi,

I modified gaugessT.htm for my convenience, and I've a little issue. The first time I load gaugess web page it's all OK

Attachment:
gaugess1.jpg

Then I select Dew Point, all OK too

Attachment:
gaugess2.jpg

but I select wind chill (like begining)

Attachment:
gaugess3.jpg

the scale is the same like dew point. How can I fix it?

A lot of thanks

Lluís

Rewrite the code! :lol:
It behaves that way for everyone, if the range of values for the parameter you select fall within the existing gauge scale, it will not rescale the gauge. For the temperature gauge, I shift the scale 20°C at a time, with a 40°C range so there quite a bit overlap in the range 'jumps'. Refreshing the page will set it back to the start range of course.

The aim was to minimise the range jumping around as much as possible.

Lluís, did you modify the 'gauges.js' script or just the template (page) to display the gauges?

On you web page, the top middle gauge starts by displaying the apparent (feels like) temperature but you have removed the button to return to the apparent temperature - just curious, why are 'dew point', 'wind chill' and 'humidex' the only choices offered to your users?

If you really really do not want to display the apparent temperature, you could modify the 'gauges.js' script to change the default start - such as starting with the 'wind chill' ... since it is the highlighted/selected button. ;)
