I have made the UV scale from 0 to 16, there does not seem to be an upper limit other than 'mid-teens' which I guess is when the Earths atmosphere is sucked off and you're in the tropics.

The Davis VP2 UV sensor/software only goes to an index of 16, which is unfortunate, as I frequently have a flat top on my graphs when the UV levels exceed 16 in the middle of summer days.

Mark, installed and ... perrrrrfect....

You know, Mark, you are getting very good at this... :D

Too bad all the work you have involved with the SteelSeries gauges is not bringing additional funds into the family budget...

Gordon, this has everything to do with the data supplied by the Davis Instruments Vantage Pro2 console (and has nothing to do with Cumulus) - as indicated in the Davis Instruments documentation, the UV Index range provided by the station is from 0 to 16, 16 being the maximum value outputted/produced by the station, no matter what - it seems appropriate to deduct the UV sensor was mainly designed for the north american UV radiation levels and not for areas where the UV radiation levels could/would be much higher such as Australia, Africa, etc.

Tell me about it, I have a bit of software I put out as donation-ware, after over 3/4 million downloads and great feedback I had donations that could be counted on one hand totalling an amount that could be counted on two hands :(

Did you just make those UV gauge examples today?
Yes, I have it fully functioning now.

Thank you for the link .
I downloaded the zip file and followed your instuctions but when cumulus updates, I get ftp error.
I am sure that i have entered the paths correctly as I have done with other addons eg weather console.
Also when i last looked i dont seem to see your up and running uv gauges anywhere.
I read your conversations about donations etc and I am all for donating to anyone who contributes their skills.
do you have any examples of config when it comes to setting up your gauges on to a website? then i may be able to see if i am doing something wrong.
Thanks
Rich

I guessed your url ;)
http://www.taunton-weather.co.uk/gauges-ss.htm

You do not seem to have created and copied the files to the "css" or "scripts" folders...
Code:

You need to switch on ftp logging and post the log file so we can take a look.

Sorry I should have said that I deleted the files to start from scratch again.
So if you were looking for the files to my site, they wouldnt have been there.
I missed the file you typed in for the url. http://www.taunton-weather.co.uk/gauges-ss.htm I manually uploaded that file just to see what would happen and in the bar it said 404 not found retrying.
Shall I try again and then do the ftp logging and give you another shout.
I realy do appeciate your help

So all those links above should have been files that I should have been manually uploading to my site or automatically through cumulus or some through cumulus and some manual?

All those files have to be manually uploaded.

From the readme.txt:
Quote:
Copy (or move) the folders 'css', 'font' and 'scripts' and their contents (the files
that are contained in the ZIP file) to the folder where your "gauges-ss.htm" file is
located (probably the same folder where all your other Cumulus HTM files are located).

I'm pretty sure they have similar UV levels in Southern Az, Tx etc, especially in elevated areas (above some of the the UV absorbing(?) smog that seems to cover most of the US), so it seems to be a shortcoming of the sensor/firmware if it stops at 16.

I reckon 17-18 is typical peak for this time of year here (685mASL) on clear sunny days, although the UV forecast with the weather rarely goes over 14-Extreme

From WHO
Quote:
The Global Solar UV Index (UVI)

The UVI is a simple measure of the UV radiation level at the Earth's surface. It has been designed to indicate the potential for adverse health effects and to encourage people to protect themselves. The values of the Index range from zero upward and the higher the Index value, the greater the potential for damage to the skin and eye, and the less time it takes for harm to occur.

While the levels of UV radiation vary during the day, they reach a maximum around mid-day. The UVI is usually presented as a forecast of the maximum amount of UV radiation expected to reach the Earth's surface at solar noon. In countries close to the equator, the UVI can reach up to 20. Summer-time values in Northern latitudes rarely exceed 8.
For us humans they simply refer to 11+ for maximum nastiness, for most 'hot' places measured values 'top out' at about 13/14

A table for expected city values is HERE

and a selection of graphics is here be graphics

From your graph that would certainly seem to be the case. I'll leave my gauge to default at 16, though a simple one line change lets you specify whatever maximum you want - I see at least one northern European user has already set their gauge maximum at 11.

Hi there again.
I must be doing something wrong somewhere or missing something out.
I manually uploaded the files you said and also put the files in the cumulus web folder as instructed.
The files I uploaded to the website I both left in original css fonts and script folder and also the file contents individually also in the root folder just in case.
Have you any idea where I may have gone wrong?
Kind regards Richard
