FTP isn't working after host change

Post by aznetcowboy »

I am unable to get my FTP to work after I switched hosts. My previous host did some sort of updates last October and ever since that I had problems with all three of my domains. I finally gave up when the issues could no be resolved.

Everything seems to be working, except for the FTP. My new host is Hostwinds (hostwinds.com) and the FTP setting work great with FileZilla. However the same setting don't work in Cumulus. The settings I have are as follows:

1) The host name is ftp.elgheko.us
2) The port is 21
3) The host directory is /home/gydfxxx (not the read name there of course)
4) The password is pword1234 (not the real one either)

Like I said before, these exact settings work fine with FileZilla. I am open to any suggestions. I haven't received a solution from tech support or the friend trying to help me, but they have no idea about Cumulus or Saratoga coding.

Hi there.

Is the new FTP service using SFTP perhaps?

have you looked at the ftp logs and debug logs? what do they say?

My new ISP give me the option of either. I am making some progress, the FTP itself seems to be working, but nothing is updating. :bash:

I was thinking of getting a print of the Cumulus Configuration screen print but that contains too much information that are personal settings, such as passwords, etc. But, to give you an idea of the pertinent settings I have, here they are:

Hostname: ftp.elgheko.us
FTP Port: 21
Directory: /home/gydfxxxx/public_html
Username: me@elgheko.us
Password: pazzw0rd 97
(DON'T BELIEVE IT :D )

All my remote files are set to the path of /home/gydfxxxx/public_html/. This is virtually the same as with the previous ISP.

I don't know if this is of any help, but there it is.

Your realtime at http://www.elgheko.us/realtime.txt is a couple days old so had been uploading and presumably that is your root directory.

A couple of wild suggestions...
For Host name try your ISP number (I have had to do that)
For Directory try just public_html

Good luck,
Paul

Here's something weird. When I forced a Web Update, I got the follows (FTP failure) ather updates look like this:

Uploading W:\Cumulus\weathercloud_realtime_template.txttmp
Remote file: /domains/elgheko.us/public_html/weathercloud_realtime.txt

I don't see where /domains/elgheko.us is coming from. That was the old ISP setting and it is showing up on all the FTP uploads.

http://www.elgheko.us/realtime.txt seems to have current data now and things on your Saratoga site seem to be updating, great!
What did you need to change?

Enjoy,

Oh now this is strange. I didn't change anything. I was having lunch and watching some TV to relax, so I've been away from my computers since noon Tucson time. Maybe it just needed time for the previous changes to take affect? Who knows.

It almost blew me away when I saw that the site was running again. If for some quirk discover what changed I will certainly post it. Guess I can remove the notice I posted into the page now. Thanks for all the assistance. I sure appreciated it. :D

My guess is the DNs settings for your new host site had not properly propagated across all the main DNS servers, and then it completed.

at least its updating now.

On a second note however you might want to think about tweaking your website for performance.

I finally have all my FTP's working properly, as far as I can tell. However, even though it appears that all the FTP's are working, the webpage is NOT updating. It hasn't updated since 09/02/18 at 11:43:22 (it is now 09/03/18 at 17:34 hours).

Any ideas? I am totally at a loss over this. Neither my Cumulus/Saratoga (http://www.elgheko.us) or my Meteotemplate (http://www.elgheko.us/mtp/) websites are updating.

Your http://www.elgheko.us/realtime.txt is still date/time 09/02/18 at 11:43:22 so either its upload by Cumulus has stopped or it is at another path/location. Recheck your Cumulus settings and Cumulus FTP logging may help you to investigate.

Enjoy,
