Doesn't connect to weather station

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Doesn't connect to weather station

Post by PaulMy »

Windows 8. I have installed in unzip default \CumulusMXDist\ (I couldn't get it to go in \CumulusMX\ - tried it 3 times), copied my existing \data\ folder and cumulus.ini (as Cumulus.ini). When running CumulusMX (shut down Cumulus 1) there is no current data in the dashboard only the current time. The Cumulus.ini and monthly, daytime files do display. I have looked at the Settings carried forward and they look correct, including Com Port 4. Shutting down CumulusMX and restarting Cumulus 1 it still runs on Com 4.

Did I miss a step?

Attached is screen shot.

I suspect this is the same issue as my post. I use Com3

I had read your post but thought mine was a little different as my Cumulus.ini says Com Port 4 which is correct, so didn't want to interfere with your post. I will monitor your post thread.

Yes I had seen that
2. Cumulus MX will only use COM1 for serial port stations
but wondered if there was any further discussion on how I can change mine from COM 4 to COM 1. I can change the COM Port settings in CumulusMX and it takes but still won't run on any of COM1...5. Presumably I will wait until Steve has looked at
Thanks - the first part is an easy fix. Can you clarify the part about changing the setting - are you saying that the Cumulus.ini file doesn't get updated if you change the serial port number and save it via the web interface?
On my Windows 8 in Device Manager I have:
Ports (COM & LPT)
| Silicon Labs CP210xUSB to UART Bridge (COM4) - which is for the Davis VP2 connection as per Weatherlink install.
| USB Serial Port (COM6) - which I believe is for my B-L Sunrecorder

It doesn't use the port setting in the Cumulus.ini file and always uses "COM1".

I think I have the same problem with wh1080. running it on windows 8.1 but in device manager it only shows as a human interface device and there does not seem to be any way to tell windows to change the port. I no on xp and vista you can change them but this is missing with windows 8.1 or have I missed something

The 1080 is a USB device, it uses the HID rather than a com port.

It means it should work with the current build, the comm port bug does not affect FO stations, they don't use comm ports.

Paul, I've updated the download; hopefully you will be able to use COM4 now.

Yes Steve, just downloaded and installed AND working.

Thanks, and it must be awful busy for you at the moment, as I am just barely keeping up with just reading all the posts.
