Please some help with Cumulus MX: the steelseries gauges

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Please some help with Cumulus MX: the steelseries gauges

Post by henkg »

Question is to anyone else but Steve. Steve is busy enough with more important problems.

In short: they do not run.
Clean install on a RPI Raspian Wheezy, Cumulus MX, version 3004; clean created/installed web folder.
Everything but the gauges works (default MX link).
The gauges: HTTP Request failed – error: not found
(Website and webserver are on a Synology NAS. See my signature for the live website)

Until now am totally ignorant about these steel series, never used them in Cumulus 1. In MX, should it work out of the box or do I need to install something, and/or upload extra web files?
Any help is much appreciated.

Do you process and upload the realtimegaugesT.txt -> realtimegauges.txt in extrafiles ? It is not supplied in the package I think ?

Are you uploading realtimegauges.txt in Setup/Extra Web Files. Do you have the template file in CumulusMX base dir/web?

See nitro beat me to it 8-)

I should probably supply the file as the gauges are 'standard' now.

Thanks a lot, this should (could?) be the solution.
However, I tried almost every source and target path. Not all, because I can still not see the file in my web folder.

I put a realtimegaugesT.txt in the web directory (/home/pi/cmx3004/web), same dir where the xxxxT.htm files reside.

CMX Internet settings:
Host: 192.168.11.101
FTP port:21
Directory: web/weercmx
With these settings, updating the standard xxxxT.htm files does work.

CMX Extra web files settings:
Local: web/realtimegaugesT.txt and Remote: http://192.168.11.101/weercmx/realtimegauges.txt
Local: realtimegaugesT.txt and Remote: http://192.168.11.101/weercmx/realtimegauges.txt
(tried a lot of other combinations also; relative paths and so on)
With Process / Real Time / FTP / UTF8 all checked.
Does not result in a realtimegauges.txt in the webfolder of my webserver.

So I am lost, I am missing something and I don’t know what.

You should put the full path for 'local' (/home/pi/cmx3004/web/realtimegaugesT.txt) and for 'remote' you should just put the path on the ftp server - you shouldn't be putting a http URL in there, it's used in an ftp command. Looks like you need web/weercmx/realtimegauges.txt if your directory setting is correct.

Thanks to this thread, I've managed to get gauges working but when I hover over a gauge, I don't get a graph - should I?
I don't get any graphs on the trend page either.

There are no graphs on the gauges because MX doesn't generate image files, it creates graphs dynamically in the browser.

You have no graphs on the trends page because you're using the old trendsT.htm that I accidentally included in a previous build. I think that recent builds have the correct one now.

Thanks for the quick response.
Using the latest trendsT.htm dated Dec 9 09:08 from 3004 but no graphs - troubleshooting suggestions?

The page at http://port-huon.com.au/weather/cumulus/trends.htm has this in it, near the start:

<!-- saved from url=(0060)http://weather.wilmslowastro.com/highch ... Graphs.htm -->

and near the end, loads this javascript:

<script src="./recentGraphs.js"></script>

That's the file I included accidentally in an earlier build.

Unless I'm going mad, and that's quite possible this week, the trendsT.htm file in the 3004 zip file doesn't have that comment in it, and uses this javascript file (amongst others):

<script src="js/cumuluscharts.js"></script>

It does.
Edit: Include the last line that is!

Fixed trendsT.htm and last line is correct (checked in firefox debugger).

I'll check if I have cumuluscharts.js loaded on the website.

The file you have now looks like an edited version of the one you had before, it still won't work. I only pointed out those two particular lines as a way of identifying the file!

EDIT: looks like I haven't been unzipping the file in the wrong place so have been overwriting thngs with older versions than expected. I either need coffee or sleep

All gauges working except windrose (EDIT: some omre old files replaced, now working)

Thanks for the help.
Finally the gauges work, after a lot of trial and error.
My problem was caused by:
- Not having a realtimegaugesT.txt in the web folder.
- After that: wrong source and target path in Extra web files
- Not checking the FTP rename option
- Not stopping and restarting the .EXE after applying changes

So now it’s time for one dram of Highland park (or two) ...

[EDIT]: From MX 3005 on, realtimegaugesT.txt is included in the standard files set.
However, uploading using Extra web files is still needed.
