Cumulus MX and Meteobridge

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Running build 3022 - so far for about 7-8 hours. It has connected and collected data for all that time - seems the communication through the Metobridge is working!

I haven't changed anything in MX. I do note, however, that there has been a change to the pass-through facility in Meteobridge, so perhaps that was the fix.

released March 10, 2015
optimized vantage pass-through timing, that should resolve some issues with connected USB data loggers.

That may be it then. Still some issues - after about 24 hours it lost communication with the station, a restart of Cumulus MX fixed that. Will leave it running to see what happens.

Is this still working currently?

I'm using meteohub and connecting cumulusMX to it via port 22222 but i'm not getting much success. WEbpage just populated with 0's.

After restarting cumulus, I get the same, data has ceased to come through.

I have set up CumulusMX today, using 3031 on my RPI2

Not popped old logs files into MX yet, they are still converting.

I've added the diagnostic report valid for the period things stopped.

I'll need debug logging and data logging turning on, please.

I've think its sorted. lOoks stable now.

For some reason, the dayfile was deleted.

I've copied one over from my PC and all appears well, except I've had 680mm of rain today and the .ini file doesn't like being accessed :(

While you were having problems, it looks like the rain counter (the annual total) was read as zero, so when it was read correctly later, the full amount counted to today.
and the .ini file doesn't like being accessed :(
I don't know what that means. Corrupt file? Wrong permissions?

sorted that in the end as well.

It needed copying to my pc, deleting off cumulusMX, editing on PC then saving back to CumulusMX.

All running good now.

At the risk of resurrecting an old thread, I have been playing around with CumulusMX connecting via the Meteobridge pass through feature. I know there are probably not a lot of folks using this type of setup, but I was wondering if anyone has found a way to get CumulusMX to reconnect after a meteobridge outage, such as a reboot of the meteobridge device for example.

I've been running it for a few days and things appear fairly stable, but I find that if I reboot the meteobridge then CumulusMX is not able to recover and reconnect to the station once meteobridge comes back up after about 30 - 45 seconds. I've played around with a couple of the Cumulus.ini settings mentioned in this thread, but they don't appear to be designed for this type of issue.

Even if CumulusMX would stop all it's upload activities in the event of the loop data not being received, I have ways of setting up an alert to notify me if CumulusMX has stopped running. But unfortunately, it appears that CumulusMX continues running and writing data to the log but just with stale data. So that makes it more difficult to be alerted of an issue.

Anyway, not a big deal since I know this is not really guaranteed to always work and it is perfectly understandable. I was just curious if anyone else has found a way of getting CumulusMX to successfully reconnect to the station after a meteobridge reboot without having to restart CumulusMX.

Thanks!

I'm hoping to look at both of these at some point (stopping logging etc if data input stops, and attempting to reconnect if the tcp/ip connection goes away). I can't say when that will be, I have very little time to spare for writing new code, and there are lots of features on the 'wanted' list.

Understood, Steve, certainly the major features are far more important than this.

Thank you for the reply. Have a nice Holiday!

I think those features are quite important - and they affect more than just the Meteobridge passthrough connection.

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has had any further success using a meteobridge and mx? I also just get zeros in the displays and no historical data.

Some people in this thread apparently are using a Meteobridge with MX - if you turn on debug logging and data logging in Cumulus.ini, and then zip up the MXdiags folder and attach it, I'll take a look.
