Website gauges not working

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

Thanks for the explanation David.

I must confess, I never updated my version of Cumulus 1 beyond 1.9.4 and simply used the original web pages and gauges. I wasn't aware that Steve had adapted it to use the new format of gauges.

Looking at the gauges.js file (which hasn't been edited in any way) the only reference I can see to location is

Code: Select all

realTimeURL_Cumulus: 'realtimegauges.txt', //*** Cumulus Users: Change to your location of the realtime file ***

It's confusing (well for me anyway) - is this referring to the location of the realtimegauges.txt file or the realtime.txt file which is uploaded (see the image of the FTP upload in the post above) ?

I assume that as it is, the gauges.js file is going to load to the root folder that is specified in the settings, which it doesn't seem to be doing as it seems to be placing this in to the root location for my main website (well placing some file that has realtimegauges in the body of the file)

EDIT:
I tried entering the folder in the JS file and it made no difference.

There is a realtimegauges.txt on your site but it is a few hours old {"date":"10:28" http://micro-heli.co.uk/weather/gauges.htm so likely from a manual FTP and the path is still incorrecxt in your Configuration. If I compare your settings screen to mine, and since your page is displaying correct Cumulus data I would suggest you remove the / slash from in front of /weather/realtimegauges.txt to just weather/realtimegauges.txt and you should be fine.

Enjoy,
Paul

You're very welcome, and they are showing current now

You likely have done that already, but remove the processing and upload to /weather/realtimegaugesT.txt as shown in a past screen shot as well as that is incorrect and not needed.

Enjoy,

Paul, to be honest, it's working so I ain't going to touch anything :D

The one thing I like about MX is that you don't need to have any application running like Cumulus 1, just that DOS box, which means that I can set up a small netbook, hook that up to the base station and have it running 24/7 if I wanted. Then use the website to see what the weather is like.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion of removing the / - I'm guessing that as you guys have been through this ages back when Steve started to develop MX that it's documented somewhere in the depths of the forum. Just wonder why it worked for Kurt, who's example I was following ?

I assume these new gauges are self-adjusting, so that if for example the wind exceeds the currently max of 20mph it will adjust the scale accordingly. Cumulus 1 used to have a setting to set the scale, which I couldn't find in MX settings?

Yes, the gauges self-scale.

The removal or otherwise of the leading slash is nothing to do with MX, so there is no documentation hidden anywhere regarding this. The remote path needs to be correct for your FTP server regardless of whether you are using MX, Cumulus 1, or any other software which does automated uploads.

Steve, I understand that, and following Paul's advice it is now working. What misled me, and I'm not casting blame, was that Kurt had the forward slash as part of the path to where he uploads the files to. I followed his example which for me didn't work, and tried various manual methods to try and work out what was working and what was not. It wasn't until Paul suggested removing the forward slash because that was the way he has his configuration set that it proved that this was the issue. All the other paths etc worked as did the folder definition in the FTP settings, so all other pages were uploading fine.

I may have things fouled up, but if I uncheck "Process," "Realtime," or "FTP" on the Extra web files page in MX I get the identical problem that Malcom was having--namely there are no values for the tags.

Yes, that's why I wrote, "Obviously the pathing will need to be changed to match your setup..." ;)

In my setup with Linux I use absolute paths.

I see what error I made in saying to remove /weather/realtimegaugesT.txt and should have said /weathder/realtmegaugesT.htm
My point was that in the screen shot example there was both a processing of realtimegaugesT.htm and realtimegaugesT.txt, and the realtimegaugesT.htm to be FTP as realtimegaugesT.htm which I don't think is necessary. As has been pointed out It is the realtimegaugesT.txt to be processed and FTP as realtimegauges.txt and at realtime.

Glad it is working, and will leave from further comment to avoid any further confusion :bash:
