new weather stations?

Topics about the Beta trials up to Build 3043, the last build by Cumulus's founder Steve Loft. It was by this time way out of Beta but Steve wanted to keep it that way until he made a decision on his and Cumulus's future.

new weather stations?

Post by xayide »

Anyone tried and found any new WS working with CMX?
I found a few new version on fine offset site. One with wifi which will most likely not work. Then there is one new which is a lot like my now working WH-3080 but with a new console (2310) which may not crash as much, any one knows?

The first two seem to use new software called WeatherSmart which would suggest that they are not compatible.

The WiFi ones are definitely NOT compatible which leaves the WA2080 which uses EasyWeather 9.0 which unless that has changed the protocol suggests it should be compatible with Cumulus.

I bought a AERCUS WH3083 (rebadged FineOffset) to get some solar readings to augment the Davis VantageVue I have.

It ran for a few months before getting problems - mostly with the wind vane - so have been using just the solar pod via Jim Easterbrook's pywws software. I have unplugged the rain and wind sensors and I use pywws as it will still continue to log data even though it detects problems with the rest of the sensors!

The unit does have the infamous USB lockup problem but I am trying some solutions. I run pywws on a stand alone RPi and the WH3083 console is without the batteries / external power. This means that the power is supplied by the Rpi USB.

Scanning the live-log output from pywws allows me to detect a lockup as it reports a "USBError". A "shutdown -r now" command reboots the RPi and clears the USB error. It has had an occasional problem picking up the live data - but we will see if I have found the solution to this

I did something similar. I use my WH-3081 with an USB-hub that is able to switch ports on and off using usb-hub-ctl i linux. This makes it possible to turn off power to the batteryless console and the USB lockup can be mitigated that way.
